If Maxis/EA wanted us to use No-CD patches then they wouldn't make the game check for the CD.

Maxis chose to make The Sims 2 a game that requires the original installation disc to be present in the CD ROM drive when the game is being played.

There are many utilities that create conditions to allow the CD requirement to be overridden. There are many reasons why a player might want such a fix.

However many such reasons have to do with game piracy. Piracy includes sharing a game with another family member. Purchase of the game is a license to use the game on a single computer (though the Maxoids won't come calling to act up all medieval if mother and daughter install the game on 2 different computers in the same house ... so long as only one of them plays it at a time!)

The most common reason given for using a no CD fix is a desire to preserve the original CD from damage. Well I have never had a disc fail -- that I was not deliberately trying to destroy. Young folks may perhaps have grown up using nursery song CD's and Toy Story DVD's as cool frisbees and handy impromptu plates for PB&J's, growing used to the distress and upset caused when a disc finally succumbs to the combined assaults of grit, cats' claws, Brillo Pads(TM) and dishwasher detergent. However TS2 is teen rated and as a responisble teen it is up to you to take care of your product. Put it away in its jewel case. If you insist on sliding your discs in and out of unauhtorized sand-filled plastic sleeves they're bound to get scratched eventually. It's what is called a trade off. If you decide that you don't want the hassle of bulky jewel cases ... your discs are more likely to get damaged. If you don't want the hassle of keeping umpty gadzillion discs on shelves in your room and use a hack or other software to avoid the need for the disc ... you run the risk that your games won't work properly.

The point is this: Don't blame us because we won't help!

If you do not own an original disc - buy one.
If you do own a disc, use it (and remove all no CD fixes from your machine).
If you do not like either of the above answers ask the people who provided the No CD hack/Patch/Fix to give you the technical support you need for their product!
