Just to make sure, you did buy the Mac version, right?
Does the disc work in other computers?
Do other discs work on this computer?

Macintosh SuperDrives tend to be a little testy at times. Try using another disc that works, clean off the TS2 disc, and see where you stand after that.

    Hope that helps,
    John

To be perfectly honest I'm not certain. If it picks and chooses what it likes, it's probably a hardware issue, not a software issue. I question whether or not reloading OS X onto your computer would make your disc drive work. Reinstalling OS X isn't going to fix ALL problems with your Mac, only the software ones.

Is your disc drive a SuperDrive or a Combo-Drive? The SuperDrive burns and plays DVDs and CDs, while the Combo Drive Plays DVDs and burns CDs

Methinks it's time for a trip to the Apple Store. You can make yourself an appointment at http://www.apple.com/retail/. Find your local Apple Store, and make an appointment at their Genius Bar.

PS. If you do decide to reinstall OS X... PLEASE BACK UP YOUR FILES! I can't stress that enough. Burn all of your important files, songs, movies, whatever, to a few CDs or DVDs so you don't lose everything.
