My favorite pet is a cat! :whitekitty: <--that one is one of them, his name is Cutter... I actually have THREE cats! (yes, I'm crazy, I make animated versions of my real life kitties....)
Kittens are nice to have in the house because they're fluffy, cute and small. Once they become adult cats they stay outside most of the time. I'd bring them in more but my mother and brother are allergic to them. Dogs for me do not make good indoor pets. You have to buy a little dog (which I hate) so it doesn't take up much room and destroy stuff at a faster rate. Overall I choose 'other' because it has such a wide range for pets; from ferrets, reptiles and fish to all of the in between.
Cool Oink...when I was a kid we used to have several border collies and they were really nice dogs and really smart. One of my evening jobs used to be bringing in our herd of sheep into the barns to protect them from coyotes during the night and one of the dogs would come with me. He was so smart that all I had to do was point at a sheep and he would chase her in the right direction. I like all sorts of animals but would have to say my favorite animal is a horse. I would LOVE to have one as I used to ride all the time when I was young but they are very expensive to keep plus my hubby says that if he was to spend that much money he would buy an ATV. He also thinks they're too dangerous as more farm accidents are caused by horses than any other animal, etc....as you can tell we've had several discussions on the issue and so far I'm losing...sigh..
Never knew you grew up on a farm. That's neat. And border collies are beautiful dogs too. They show off their intelligence especially well during competitions too. I love sheep dogs in general because they're so... regal and classy.
They are really great with little kids and keep them from danger...when I was little our collies wouldn't let me near the creek by our house because they thought I might drown. It annoyed me but my Mom really liked them keeping me away from the water...They're funny dogs 'cause they'll herd anything. They'd go out to our fields and start herding the cattle, etc. when I wasn't working with the sheep just because they enjoyed it so much. One of our dogs we have now is a Border collie/Labrador cross and she's always biting at the tires of my vehicle when I leave the yard and chasing vehicles that go past our place..
I LOVE aaaaalll animals!!! As many of you already know I own rabbits and guinea pigs. I'm grown up with dogs, have had a horse and several cats. I've learned pretty much about a lot of animals actually and that's fun - because you can always discuss them with people that has different animals or likes different such. They're great!! But my favourite animal through time has to be horses.
I've always had cats growing up so cats are my favorite but I had to give up my kitties 3 months ago because they were getting to be to much (one liked to pee on clotes and the other liked digging up the carpet to eat it go figure) so its very different not having cats. So now im onto collecting fish lol.
i looooooove cats. we have at least 12 right now. I also like little dogs and pretty much all little rodents^.^
Yeah to Heln and horses. I love horses. Sadly I never owned one but I never pass up the chance to ride. Meantime I share house with a feisty cat called ... er ... Mirelly Lyra ... yeah, I'm that sad.
I Love animals and plants. That's why I started studying so that I could learn more about the way animals behave and interact with the world around them. It's fascinating really and the whole theory of evolution is amazing. I found it especially fascinating to apply that theory and see how animals evolved to suit their environment and how other animals and environments can change the course of a species evolution as well. *sigh* Sorry..Babble. Anyway..I have a beautiful dog who is part doberman and part kelpie and she likes to round the babies up before they get to the gate as a result of an unfortunate accident that occurred when she ran out of the gate when she was small.
Yeah. Studying animals is fascinating. I'm trying to learn more about the colour genetics in guinea pigs to get the colours better and as well enhance the type. It's really exciting to wait for that litter and see what's gonna be.
Wow Helen! Genetics is super fascinating...so many variables...It's really amazing that you are genetically engineering your guinea pigs too!
A friend of mine a long time ago had a guinea pig from a pet store and well she had it for about two years when it all the sudden produced a baby! We have no idea how that could happen seeing as how it was the only guinea pig she had and it had been 2 years since she got it from a pet store... so I guess my question is, can they somehow reproduce on their own or a pregnancy last that long??
I like dogs because they like human contact, where as cat could care less if they saw you again. PLus they can learn tricks, such as attacking people you don't like.
Gaploxter: :~) I've gotten some newish pets - gerbils. My opinion is that they're a lot better than hamsters (smell less, smaller and like company.)
o.o i luv hamsters (dwarf hamsters are so little^.^) but i want a gerbil too. course....hamsters are at risk of the cats already so i dont want to put a gerbil ar risk too lol
Aww... yeah I know what you mean about pets in risk of the cats. When we got a big fish tank, the cats would sit there and watch the fish and I could just hear the gears in the cats head trying to figure out how they were going to get to them. Silly cats would even sit there licking their lips! lol.
