Playing The Sims 2 on a laptop..

I'm considering buying a laptop, and I was wondering which laptops play The Sims 2 smoothly, without being too expensive. Or you can just list the laptop requirements to play The Sims 2. Thanks much for your help!

The requirements for playing the game are the same whether you're using a desktop or laptop. Laptops can play the game, but if you want it to run smoothly and prettily, it comes with a large pricetag. (Most laptops are pretty spendy when you want to get one which can play games as well as do work/school things. You get much more "bang for your buck" with a desktop than a laptop.)

The game will run on the minimum requirements listed for the game. However, you'd have to turn the graphics "look" down as well as turn off all background programs to have it run "smoothly" if you've only got the minimums.

Hopefully some laptop owners here will be able to tell you about how theirs performs with the game.

Yes, mine's on a laptop - on an external hard drive. And it runs beautifully, so don't worry :)

Our laptop is just over 2 years old - http://www.ciao.co.uk/HP_Pavilion_Zd7255EA__5790809 and was an expensive one at that time (1399  ), though it would probably be much less expensive now. We chose it because it was the only one in our area where the graphics card was not on-board (can't remember what the other term is for it lol). We were advised to get that setup as the performance would be slower if it was on-board graphics. It was also the only one at that time with 128mb video memory - all others were less. The screen is awesome, really clear, no complaints there.

The Sims 2 base game played really smoothly. I added Uni, and NL (which took several attempts to install as it kept giving error messages during install), and recently added OFB and Pets. Now it runs more slowly (heh, maybe the 6GB of downloads is the problem there :p), and the graphics on some of the clothes are kinda blurry/ not crisp and detailed. Still, if I uninstall some stuff/ delete a lot of unused stuff on the laptop, defrag and take out some of the 6Gb of downloads, it might run more smoothly.

Kat is right - you get more bang for your buck with a desktop. If you're definitely going to buy a laptop though, I would advise one where the graphics card is not 'on-board' as it was explained to me that the on-board graphics card eats into the processor performance (they 'share'), so it will be less efficient and will be slower overall. Not sure how accurate that info is, but that's what was explained to me. Which Sims 2 Expansion Packs do you have?
