    Poll : Daily scandisk ?

After my recent " free space error " disaster with The Sims, I've been thinking about more frequent scandisks, because windows rarely reports drive errors , and the sims does not report them at all. Currently, I only scandisk when I'm doing re-installs, because of the big amount of space being freed and used. Windows will do them if the computer is shut down. So the poll is, how often do you scandisk ? Is running scandisk on a daily basis a good idea - or overkill ? Would it save game crashes in the future?

    alapokeygirl Very much in LOVE

I don't play my game on a daily basis, so I only do it about once a month, a little more often when playing the game a lot.

Scandisk is scanning for faults. I recommend a defrag once a week instead. if there are problems it usually tells you to run a scandisk as well. I run a defrag once a week even though i rarely play games or so installs today. Only surfing around moves enough bits and pieces on your HDD.
Defrag once a week that's my recommendation as well as befora and after a major install/uninstall. :classic:

I recommend scandisk when your sims potrait is wrong and shows some funny pic instead,...other then that..defrag..
and also show some control when downloading...I download too much till the sims kinda take up half my coms harddisk

Lol Lew. For some reason that sounds very familiar. I wonder how many downloads I have waiting.
And I don't even have Sims installed at all.

yes. Defrag regulary. defrag protests and tells you if you need to run some other maintenance. :classic:

I have a tendency to add more objects all the time...depending on what I want to build...like an arcade...a museum

My new Harddrive will be partitioned. Easier for me and I think it will benefit the comp in the length as well. :classic:

One partition for the OS and workingprograms and one for my games and such.

if you start getting corrupt data, you should goto your hard disk manufacturer and run their tools to see if your hard drive is breaking.

i rarely scan disk or defrag.... i think only twice has it been done since XP was installed last summer/spring.. (maybe almost a year ago? ) my dad think my bro did them last Christmas.... and i did a partial defrag (stopped it.. was taking to long..) a few weeks ago, i think i did a scandisk then too.... I haven't had any probs tho...

my scandisks takes about 2 minutes (just checking to see if the drive works)

Data scandisks from MSFT...takes forever, so I run those while I'm sleeping :p

Before partitioning a full defrag took a terrific length of time - go and walk the dogs, having dinner, have a sleep and come back and stop the computer. It hasn't improved - I have just stopped defagging it.

I have it set to defrag once a week, and it always runs the scandisk first... I'm starting to wonder if it's REALLY running the weekly defrag though, as I haven't caught it doing it for a while now! ...hmm...

I find that it does run the scandisk however the minute you wake up your PC, it turns it off. :-S

I find running a scan disc and a defrag. very beneficial. I do a scan before every defrag. I defrag. once a week, a scan disc checks for errors and I do a thorough scan disc once a month. I think of it like this....it's a filing cabinet and I have all these files that I have used, downloaded and moved, all over the place. A scan disc checks to see if they got messed up and a defragment puts them all back neatly in the file cabinet so the computer can find them quicker, thus running faster and smoother.

Also I do know that if your doing a scan disc and defragment and if your computer has things running in the background it will cause it to stop and start, stop and start, in turn making the process take for ever.

I do scandisk every other night or so. (virus checks daily) Juat do 'em at night, so it doesn't take up your time.
