Problem with downloaded objects I am having trouble with about 80% of the objects I download off of sim fansites... Sometimes it will work and all I have to do is click on the little blue sim guy to install the object in to the game, BUT somtimes instead of it just looking like a little blue sim it looks like a peice of paper with the sim on it (I am of course speaking of the downloaded objects file icon) ... When I have this paper sim icon and click on it, it says I have to double click it to install... Well it just does that over and over. Is there a program I need for these objects to work or something? Even unzipping the folder doesn't work. PLEASE HELP!
What is the "extension" at the end of the name. If it is .sims2pack it will install with the "little blue sim guy". If it is .package, you have to place those manually or use something like Sims File Maid to place it. Sims File Maid evidently will take zipped/rar files and place them, so that you don't even have to unzip them yourself. I suspect that the "piece of paper" you mean is a .package file. Many of the fansites use those because they tend to be smaller. Also, nothing else installs with it, whereas anything in a .sims2pack will install automatically, even if it's something you really don't want to have. (You'd need the Sims 2 Pack Clean Installer if you wanted to install just part of it.) Once a .package file is unzipped (from its RAR or ZIP folder), you can either put it manually into your My Documents/EA/The Sims 2/Downloads folder. Most of the fansites, in their FAQs or just as a specific link and occasionally in a readme file inside the zip, have instructions in how to install their product.
