Problems Installing Alright, this is getting frustrating. I've been on the phone 4 times with Tech support. It installs to 22% and then comes up with an error message. However, I manually installed it and it installed it ok. But then it had no neighborhoods on it. I am just getting frustrated with this. Here is my specs: Dell labtop 1.7 Ghz Intel Processor 256 MB Nvidia GeForce 7800 Go 1 GB Memory Someone please help me! I NEED TO PLAY SIMS
Dan, to me it seems like your problem is that you have too little memory on your laptop. 1 GB really isn't enough for a game that requires 4 GB for the base game (how you managed to install it with only 1 GB on your computer - in the first place - is a mystery to me). My tip to you is to get some more memory on your laptop. TS2 isn't all that laptop friendly so I'd recommend that you try the Sims 2 Life Stories (I believe there is a pet one as well now) if you're really desperate to play on the Sims 2. Life Stories was made to be laptop friendly and from what I've heard, it's pretty good. But make sure that you've got enough memory for that one before you get it, though.
Sorry Muffin Hes talking about memory not hard disk space. However You need a superduper laptop to play sims. And make sure as muffin almost said you need lots of harddisk space.
Dan we'd need to know what the error message actually is, before further advice can be offered. What advice did Tech Support give and did you follow it? Common, guy, we're not mind readers, ya know.
Alright, great news, I got it installed and it's running smoothly. Alright, bad news, one of my characters locked up. He smells, he's tired, he's hungry. But he ain't freakin moving. Just stands there saying he needs to pick up the phone????
LOL He's locked into an action: "pick up phone" You can perform two different fixes. (I can think of two more but these'll do). (a) Enter debug mode: boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true in the cheat console (Ctrl+Shift+C) then shift click the stuck sims and choose the option force error and pick the option: "Reset". NOTE there may be a series of 'nested' errors, all of which will need to be individually cancelled if the first reset error doesn't de-immobolise him. Turn off debug mode when finished boolProp testingCheatsEnabled false ... (b) Alternatively. Use the moveObjects on cheat to enable you to enter build mode and select thew stuck sim and delete him. Save and exit the lot and when you reload the stuck sim will be regenerated and -- probably -- standing by the mailbox. The second option is the safer as resetting errors can accumulate into big fiery balls visible from space. Resetting the sim is less problematic but more tedious cos you have to save and exit and reload ...
