problems with directx 9.0c? solution here ok. i have been fiddling around for days now, installing and uninstalling sims and dirextx, enabling stuff and disabling,installing new video drivers, plonking files in directories and scratching my head thinking about getting a new video card. the problem i was having was ' failed to initialise, directx9.0c not detected' or similar. anyway here is the solution to my problem and hopefully alot of other peoples. goto microsoft web site, click on automatic updates, it should come up with microsoft server pack2 ( i tryed to find it using the website but failed to get the right one) click to install it. takes a while. reboot your computer when prompted. now if you look in the directx file you should be updated to 9.0c it seems this one works correctly to update directx from 9.0b to 9.0c whereas the download and the one on the disk doesnt work properly to override the previous installation. steps again as follows 1/ uninstall sims2 2/ reboot computer 3/ get on the net gotto www.micosoft.com web site 4/ click on automatic updates 5/ wait while your machine searches 6/ from the list click on micosoft server pack2 7/ install it ( think its about 117 meg) 8/ reboot when asked 9/ my computer hung at this stange so i turned it off and on again 10/ after it reboots press start/run then type dxdiag 11/ should now have upgraded to 9.0c 12/ click off make sure no other programmes are runing 13/ install simms2 14/ start playing. hope this helps some people. rich
