Problems for installing and running the EP

Hi Everybody:
Well, a friend of mine is having troubles with the installation and then with running the expansion packs of the Sims 2, which i will explain shortly, first i will leave you the details and her system specficications :

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.40GHz
RAM: 512MB RAM
Windows Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1 compilacin 2600)
Free H/D Space: 57.7GBs
Total H/D Space: 75.4GBs
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Display Adapter: Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 440
Display Driver :Name: nv4_disp.dll Ver:6.14.0010.4523 Date: 28/07/03
Video Memory: 64 MBs

----
Well now comes the thing, first of all, she got Sims 2 installed, and she is trying to install the 2 expansion packs Nightlife (or something like that =P), and University. (game and EP are in CD's)
During the installation, almost at the end she gets an error from windows, (Eg: Sims Univeristy has detected a problem and must close), well but anyway that doesn't stop her installation and she can finish it. When she tries to run the game she gets the same error from windows, and it wont let her run it, not even the Sims 2 without the expansion packs.

----
Well as you imagine, she has followed the steps from the installation guide inside the game and i read them in this forum too, and it seems she has done nothing wrong.

I hope you can help us, i will leave you and img of the Error, if you need me to send you the details of it ask me plz.

Thanks in Advance.

Well i have bad news =(, she installed the driver update but the EP's are still giving the same errors, those i showed in the post above. When the game finishes installing, i mean when it reachs at 100%, and it has to open the next window, it gaves that error, and well as i said before, it also gaves an error when she tries to run the game.

I hope you can help us with this problem guys xD.

Thanks in advance.

Hola Mefisto,

Have you tried searching the tech support area at ea.com?

For example they have this to say concerning Windows errors/crashes during installation:-

Why is there a crash or error during installation?
[IMG] Answer This is due to the CD-rom speed dipping below acceptable reading levels for the Install Shield software to read accurately.
• Check to see if there are any scratches, fingerprints, or marks of any kind on the disk surface. Something even as small as a piece of hair or a very light scratch can cause this error. If you find any fingerprints or debris try cleaning the CD or with a soft cotton cloth.

• If you do not find any scratches, fingerprints, or marks of any kind on your CD, try renaming the InstallShield folder:
1. Double-click on the My Computer icon.
2. Double-Click on the C:
3. Double-Click on Program Files then on Common Files.
4. Right-Click on the InstallShield folder.
5. Select Rename.
6. Rename it to InstallShieldOld.
7. Start the installation again to reinstall the InstallShield components with the newest version.

• If the above does not work, try these CD/DVD troubleshooting steps to prevent read errors.

• Also, if you have any virus protection programs like Norton or McAfee, temporarily disable them by right clicking on the icon in your system tray in the lower right corner of the desktop and selecting "Disable" or "Exit". Also be sure to end all background programs before attempting installation.

• If you have Windows XP or 2000 try running the installation for the game using the Program Compatibility Wizard.

If the previous steps did not work, you can try copying the disk files to your harddrive and installing without the CDs. Make sure to follow the steps below exactly as they read, or else the install may not work.
1. Double-click My Computer.
2. Right-click on the Local Disk C and choose Open.
3. Right-click inside the window and select New, and then Folder.
4. Name the folder Disk Images it is important that the name has a space in it.
5. Double-Click the new Disk Images folder to open it.
6. Right-click inside the window and select New, and then Folder.
7. Name this folder Disk1.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 while substituting Disk1 for Disk2. It is important to note there must not be a space between "Disk" and the number.
9. Insert Disk 1 of The Sims 2 University into your CD-Rom drive and if the autoplay starts, cancel it.
10. Double-click My Computer to open it.
11. Right-click on your CD-ROM drive and choose Open.
12. When you see the contents of the disk in the Window, click on Edit at the top of the window and choose Select All.
13. All the contents of the disk should now be highlighted, click on Edit at the top of the window again and choose Copy.
14. Open the Disk1 folder you created under C:\Disk Images; click on Edit at the top of the window and choose Paste. This will copy the contents of the CD into the Disk1 folder.
15. Repeat steps 9 through 14 for Disk 2 until you have copied each disk into its appropriate folder.
16. Once the disks have been copied, remove ALL CDs from any drives.
17. Open the Disk1 folder under Disk Images and double-click on autorun.exe to start the installation.
18. To save disk space, you can delete the Disk Images folders after the installation has completed.

Problems with the installation of the expansions of the Sims 2

But when it finished the installation, before executing the game she requested me the cd 1 and after that it left me the error. I don't understand because it leaves that error.
I'm sorry, I am not very good with the English language but I hope you have understood what I wrote, if you can help me with this problem, serious brilliant.
Thank you again for your advice!
And please, if some user could facilitate me some solution he will be very grateful!
Greetings!

LOL Jesi, your english is understandable. I have no problem understanding you.

(I have merged your message into Mefisto's thread -- to keep together messages concerning the same problem)

Your problem sounds like a CD drive issue. Did you go through all the CD troubleshooting advice at ea.com?

I'm not very technical minded, but if you post your entire system specs someone should be able to assist you quicker. Check here if you're not sure how to get your system specs.
