You need to be able to teel the difference between the different types of file that are offered for download.

Most files are downloaded as compressed files to save space. The two most common formats are ZIP and RAR. If you have Windows XP your PC will recognize ZIP files and they will look like the pic below (pink line). The icon for RAR is also show (yellow line) but it won't look like that on your computer unless you have installed a utility to deal with RAR files, such as winrar

The secondr pic shows the two types of SIMS2 files that are contained in the download packages.

    • The first sort is a DBPF file (yellow line in Pic 2) and is normally just placed into the folder:-
      • C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads
      • (make sure to read the READ ME file associated with your download - it will tell you what to do!)
    • The second sort is a SIMS2PACK file and looks like the pink line in the second pic. A Sims2Pack file is self installing and has to be double-clicked. It then open via the built-in Sims2 Installer and you will be asked to confirm that you want to install the "custom content" .

Aha! Just put them as they are into the folder called Downloads in My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/ If you go clicking it you will only confuse your poor 'puter cos it doesn't know to do with it unless The Sims is running.

There are many ways to do this but the easiest (to my mind) is open a pair of windows one looking at your downloaded and unzipped file and the other looking at the Downloads folder. then just pick up the file and drag it over and drop it.

'S all there is to it.
