Random College Major Question--Naval Architecture I know this is kind of a random question, but does anyone know what schools offer degrees in naval architecture and marine engineering? I've heard the Universities of Hawaii and New Hampshire do, but I'm not entirely sure. I know, this is kind of random. But I'm young, and would like to explore every option available to me before deciding on a profession. Just trying to explore every avenue that interests me. At the moment--while I have immense respect anyone who has done this--I would not like to pursue education which would require military service. Thanks, John PS. I forgot to mention! Although I live in NJ, I'm more than willing to consider a college in Great Britain.
Hi John I don't know about colleges in the USA but I have seen a few mentions of naval architecture in Great Britain when I googled. Not sure if the courses offered are what you are looking for, but the following websites might be a good start: http://www.solent.ac.uk/courses/maritime and ent science.aspx http://www.na-me.ac.uk/index_2.htm Courses offered in Great Britain: Marine Engineering Glasgow University Greenwich University Liverpool John Moores University Newcastle University Plymouth University Southampton University Strathclyde University Universityversity Coll London Maritime Studies Greenwich University Liverpool John Moores University London Met University Plymouth University Southampton Inst Southampton University Marine Architecture Southampton University Universityversity Coll London Plymouth University Southampton University Strathclyde University Universityversity Coll London Naval Engineering Newcastle University Southampton University Strathclyde University Universityversity Coll London
Thanks--it's exactly what I was after. It's kind of funny, actually, although I should've expected it. I found out the US has about 14 schools that have naval architecture listed as one of their majors. Of those, somewhere around half are military academies! Thanks again, John
Hmm ... if you want a warship you make friends with the White House and ask the incumbent, pretty please, to sell you something expensively deadly. If you just want something that floats without leaning over inappropriately , you get a Brit to design it and then get a Korean to build it for you
LOL, that's too true. If only Harland & Wolff would once more focus on ships instead of "offshore interests." (or if John Brown was still in business)
Personally I blame the unions ... ... they seem to think their members should get paid real money ... every week!
LOL, what a concept! And to think, I'm happy making minimum wage and getting a paycheck every 2 weeks. Then again, I'm 16
