    Riddles!

Now that we have 3 threads on matchstick riddles let's have differnet riddles (JOSH! :dead:Flooder! :p). Every three days I'll post a new riddle, unless someone guesses the correct answer then I'll post it as soon as I see it.

Rules: Don't cheat... :p That means no looking up the riddles.

    Anyway... Let's start! :D

Five hundred begins it, five hundred ends it,
    Five in the middle is seen;
First of all figures, the first of all letters,
    Take up their stations between.
Join all together, and then you will bring
Before you the name of an eminent king.

    DAVID,
500 in roman numerals is D
V is roman numeral for 5
A and I are the first of all letters and figures ( I being the roman numeral for 1)

I did not cheat, but had heard this one b4.

    Next riddle:
What does man love more than life
Fear more than death or mortal strife
What the poor have, the rich require,
    and what contented men desire,
What the miser spends and the spendthrift saves
And all men carry to their graves?
