RMS Queen Elizabeth 2 Sold to Dubai http://www.cunard.com/AboutCunard/N...wArticle&Mode=News&ContentID=6656&Active=News Cunard announced today that the beloved QE2 will be leaving their fleet in Fall, 2008 to begin a new life as a floating hotel in Dubai. It is a grim day in Cunard history.
How sad to see the retirement of such a grande dame! So glad I got the chance to make the crossing on her during her final year as a Trans-Atlantic Liner...Those are memories I shall never forget!
Indeed, with you is a very special portion of history. You're quite fortunate to have been able to sail on her.
Aye, but she's just going to be a historical ship in a country in which she has no ties, aside from (now) monetary. Additionally, ships that are turned into hotels often don't see the regular maintenance normally required for her upkeep. Queen Mary, for example. Ah well. At least she'll still be with us and not under an ocean, or worse, sold to be used by another line.
