save /lock up/ possible corrupted files?

Like Trev_(forget#) ...Everything runs "relatively" well until I save or quit/save, then program locks and I must unplug from power to regain control of computer. Note: number players at lot has definite impact on mini-freezes during gameplay.
Installed: with virus and firewall disabled/all processes with owner user name turned off (except explorer/taskmgr& wscntry (?)(ms security center..refused to be turned off). Game played in same mode.
Believe files corrupted from constant unplugging as later began to have problems with some "buys". Uninstalled according to directions given in "why can't I use Build Mode Tools?" (offical site)

Would like to reinstall, but will await instructions --Don't want to reinstall until know how to avoid old problems.
Note: DXDIAG run = no probs.

    SYSTEM INFO: Intel(R)Pentium(R) 4CPU 2.66GHz/30GB hard drive
space /256MB RAM (DXDIAG reports 254?)
Nividia GEForce 4mx 440 with AGP8x(dell)/64 MB total memory
    Driver NV4_disp.dll/ version 6.14.0010.4403/
    Direct x 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
    Page file 242MB used/ 499MB available

Sounds like I know what this means. Don't. Just gleamed it from your site.
Computer illiterate needs lock- step help. Please.

It may very well be you haven't saved in a while, and everything was in cache, and eventually when you did attempted a save, it was locking up. Try saving more frequently and see how that works.
