    Shell Access

<div style="color: #000080; padding: 2px;">Shell Access</div><div style="font-size: .9em; margin-bottom: 12px; border-bottom: 1px solid #000080; padding: 2px; border-top: 1px solid #000080;">Thursday, December 25, 2003 by Kevin Stange</div><div style="font-size: 1em;">Members of SimGames.net may not have shell access. It will not be granted under special consideration, so please do not contact me asking for it to be enabled.

It has been decided that shell access is unnecessary for running a web site. Users of SimGames.net are NOT permitted to run processes that are active on a continuous basis, and this is the primary reason for shell access requests.

If you would like to run a process on a regular schedule, please vote in the poll to indicate you'd like access to the crontab feature.

If you need me to run shell commands that do not involve invoking a server or client that runs in the background, I will gladly do so, but please do not ask me to run chat services (we already provide this service), IRC bouncers (use a network with a nickserv and memoserv!), radio servers, or anything else that runs all the time. These are not permitted by our terms.

    Thank you.</div>
