Signs of No SecuROM for Sims 3?

It's too early to tell right now whether EA has finally bowed to consumer and legal pressure to remove SecuROM from its games. Even right now, officially no DRM solutions has been selected for The Si...

What exactly is Steam? Do you need an internet connection for it?

Steam is a Digital Distribution and Digital Rights Management system developed by Valve Software.

It does require an internet connection. Note though, that no one has any firm confirmation what DRM solution was selected by EA for The Sims 3, if any solution has been selected at all in the first place.

Yeah Steam is a great set-up unless you're on dial up .
Some of their game updates can be pretty good sizes !
Be nice if Ea would incorporate it as choice by the gamer to either go the Steam route or the Securom route.
Say you install the game and it could give the person a choice or either using Steam or the included DRM.

The no extra addons route would be a nice touch as well.

I'm not sure why EA insists on using any of this anti-pirate software, which only affects the people who have actually bought the game. Is there any actual evidence that SecuROM or any other form of DRM actually stops piracy?

From what I've heard it doesn't do much to stop piracy but more like encourages it. Of course I don't have any actual studies to back that up.
