Sims 2 crashes with microsoft error

Thanks for all who read this,

I just bought a new computer today, so i have all the specs to play all of the games. After installing expansion packs 1 and 2 I encountered a microsoft error after trying to start the game. I went to ea's web page and did what they suggested (update drivers, reinstall and remove registry) and still the same problem. I uninstalled everything again and reinstalled with just the Sims 2, again when i go to play it i see the white screen, and the sims 2 logo, and then a microsoft error. I can post the error if necessary.

    Any help is greatly appreciated,

    Thank you!

I had forgotten to patch it after my last install, I just patched it. I don't know if that changed the error report:

Yea it changed slightly. But it looks like you only applied a patch to The Sims 2. What about expansion packs?

i had patched the expansion packs, and received the same error. Right now just Sims 2 is installed with the patch and I get that error.

do you have a more specific link?

That's as specific as it comes. Click read the EULA, and click accept :)

LOL Josh. Pandora that link contains the vague dots to allow it to fit the screen ... the full link should show up in the status bar (bottom lefthand side of the browser window) when you hover the mouse over the link ... and the whole link will certainly end up appearing in the address bar if you actually click it.

I was just talking with a lady from hp and she said:

Ruth S: Jennifer, your computer was shipped with the integrated video cxhipset.
Ruth S: You need to upgrade the video memory to run high end games.

Is she correct in saying this? Should I be taking it back?

Pandora, we'll need to see your full system specs to answer that question. Please see the FAQ's (link in my signature) for 'a how' to do this
