Sims 2 Wont play: Monitor shuts off after splash screen

Hello. I know you''ve probably seen enough threads seeing this problem, but I have yet to find a solution. I need help.
I used to be able to play sims on this computer, but after updating windows it wont play anymore. It will load up the splash screen (the white box saying sims 2), and then my monitor goes black, and about 10 seconds later, the monitor shuts off completely and I have to reboot my computer. Any ideas what could cause this??

Sounds like you've got a piece of hardware about to go bad like maybe the power supply.

Post a dxdiag. I would think that TS2 is using a resolution that your monitor doesn't support and it is going in to sleep mode. When this happens, pressing Alt + Tab should take you back to the desktop.

Hi sorry I forgot to post my dxdiag earlier. So here it is. Also in reply to swmeek, I hadnt thought about that.. although the power supply is only 2 months old so I am very much hoping its not that. heh. And flameback, I tried the alt+tab thing, but nothing works I have to reboot manually with the reset button every time.

swmeek I got your benevolent dictator pal!!

What is the power output of the power supply and what brand is it?
What does you video card call for in power requirements?
If it were me I'd go through and make sure all the power connections are nice and tightly connected.
A loose connection might cause it .
Another thing that might cause it is a corrupted driver.
Make sure you have the most current driver for your ATI card.
You might also make sure the video card is fully seated in the slot too.

This looks like the problem. I don't know what kind of flux capacitor powered monitor you're using, but it doesn't seem to be up to the job. Is it a CRT of LCD? Is it even a TV? The fact that you're using 1024x768 at 16bits either means that either your monitor can't handle any higher or the graphics card can't, or perhaps both?
