This is a long and tedious process if you have a lot of downloads. This is the way I do it.

    1) Open your downloads folder.
    2) create subfolders for the different catagories. Mine has "Objects" "Hacks" "Walls" "Floors". I haven't tried to organize my "Body Shop" files yet, but I have heard that we can now put them into subfolders if we have the Nightlife EP. (Any confirmation on this)
    3) Now, click on "View" on the toolbar, then "Arrange Icons-->By Type"
    4) Now, you are looking at them arranged by the type of files. If you haven't cleaned this out in awhile, you might see some stuff you don't really need, like image files and read-me files that you've already read, and so on. I reccomend deleting all these out, because they are just wasted space. Other people would tell you to move your read me files to another file outside your download file. It's up to you.
    5) Okay, now we have about a thousand (or three, if you're me) downloads. Scan through them. Most of them have names that are understandable and say what they are. Like, "Pinkheartwall" or "MaryJonesSimsBlueCrib". Just drag these files to your subfolders. You can hold down the Ctrl button and highlight multiple files to drag and drop, if you like.
    6) Okay, now we have a bunch of them organized, but what about all these files that have names like "2640034nnmaliu0234mha90034.pkg" A lot of the older body shop files had names like that, but there are those out there who are still not taking the time to give their package files appropriate names. This is when you need a little help. You can use A) The Custom Content Browser from the official Sims2.com, or b) Sims 2 Clean Installer, downloadable at modthesims2.com, or c) SimsPE, which you can also find linked to modthesims2. For this job, I like the clean installer.
    7) Open the clean installer and have it scan your downloads folder (could take awhile if you have a ton of stuff)
    8) Once it is finished scanning, you can now see what type of file each one is. You can even double-click it and get a small image of it, so you have a good idea of what you are looking at. (Oh, it's that ugly pink microwave I downloaded, not the cool stainless-steel one!) You can now right click on the highlighted file and either disable it, delete it, or move it to a subfolder.

I hope this helps. :) And I hope that someone who knows better than I can tell you (and me) for sure if we can now organize the body shop files, because mine are a freakin' mess!!! I can't help it, I'm a clothes horse for my Sims! :)
