Sims 3 CD not being read

I had been playing the game for about 2 weeks, and yesterday when I put the game in, I noticed it did not open the starter. So I manually opened the starter and clicked the button to start the game and it said that the Sims 3 was not in. I checked to be sure I put it in the DVD ROM, which I did, and I tried several times cleaning the disk and putting it back in. When I opened My Computer, it said that there was 0 bytes of information on the disk. I am unable to find the cause of the sudden erase of the disk and cannot think of how it may have happened. The CD is only slightly scratched.

swmeek I got your benevolent dictator pal!!

Do you have a friend with a computer with a dvd drive who could test it for you to see if the dvd is in fact good or bad?
Did you try cleaning the dvd player laser as well?
Have you downloaded the patch by chance recently ?

Check the disk in another computer.
Can the disk drive read any other CDs?

The same thing has happened to me. I got the game today and when I put the disk in my laptop it started whirring and beeping and nothing came up on the screen. After nothing had loaded up for a while I took the disk out and then put it back in and it installed fine. I then played the game earlier and it worked fine but now when I've put the disk back in again it's doing what it did the first time and when I open the game launcher and press the play button it says "No game disc found. Please insert the Sims 3 game disc before proceeding." I've tried it a few times as well as on another laptop but it won't work. Any ideas?

Would you post a dxdiag report please? It would allow us to gain an idea what your system is capable of :)
