    Slow Performance

I'm sure you guys get this question all the time, but here it is. The game runs fine when I have one or two sims on a property and the property is small. Large properties and NPCs in the house cause the game to drastically run slower to the point where sometime the game is unplayable. I specifically bought more RAM and a vidio card to play this game... her are my specs:

    153 GHZ
    384 MB DDR RAM
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 with 128 MB memory
    Direct X 9.0c
    Windows XP Home
    Sims2 CD version

As for free and total hard disk space, I don't know how to get that info. And as for the driver version for the vidio card, I don't know how to get that either. I'm not a computer dummy, but this is going further into technical aspects than I'm familiar with. It's all just numbers and letter to me. Greek, shall we say?

One thing keeps ringing in my mind and that is you have a serious lack of memory. 384MB of memory to cover both your Sims 2 game and Windows XP Operations is really not a whole lot to work with.

Get at least 512MB, recommended 1GB so that you can play the game without a whole lot of lag.

Hm. I wondered about that. These gaming companies Minimum requirements are extremely misleading. 256 min they say....BUT really, the minimum would be what it takes to run windows AND Sims2 because you have to have windows to run the game.... EA, I've noticed doesn't put the ideal system requirements on their software like a lot of other companies do. Usually you get the minimum and the ideal.

Well, anyway, that's an easy fix. Thanks for the help.

Hmmmmmmm..... I now have the RAM you recommended and it did...nothing. The second I go into live mode things get so slow I get a delay when I hover the pointer of objects. It takes it about 8 seconds to regester as an object I can interact with.

I've run basic system maintenance, upgraded my vidio drivers, and added RAM. No dice.

Is it just The Sims 2 that gives you these problems? If you experience similar problems with other games, than your hardware or system configuration is probably to blame. But if other games run great, then it's probably just the game. In that case, you should go on EA's official website and explain your problem to them and see what advice they can offer you.

It seems to happen when I build larger homes. I went into other lots and things run just fine. So, I'm not sure what the issue is. I'm not that worried about it, really. As long as I avoid huge properties, I'm fine.

Oh... and just a nanny tip. I know she's a big issue. When a person dismisses the nanny, the complaint has been that she immediately begins doing things in the house instead of leaving and then ends up staying. There is a car that is supposed to pick her up. I believe it stays for a short time just like when yours sims go to school or work. If she misses that car, you're stuck with her. So... I would suggest people keeping an eye out for that car and trying to keep the nanny occupied with chat or something so that when you cancel your action she will "hopefully" leave. I don't know if that will work or not, but it's just a thought. Because she will do other things in the house until her ride comes. But if she's bathing or playing piano...or some other thing that would normally increase skill points...she won't just get up and leave on her own.

Boogymouse I have an Athlon 2.08GHz, 1GB RAM, and a GeForce FX5600 with 256MB memory and I get some lag with large houses and on lots with a very great number of objects and/or sims. Community lots for example (try to avoid building community lots with several cashiers (one per cash register). Cashiers aren't much use for social interaction and they take up system resources.

You might find that adjusting your page file resources (how to here) will make some improvements and you might find more help on this page

You will also achieve very large boosts in performance by lowering some of the graphical settings. For example I turned off transparency on the "Interface Panel" ... who wants to see thru it anyway! ;)

I'm not having the same problems anymore. I put in more RAM and things seems to be working fine now. It just seems to be that one lot that I'm having problems with. But I'll eventually just move them out and into a new lot and I'm sure the problem with cease with that family. Thanks for the help.
