still experimenting still experimenting with trying to bulid a garden & orchard. i have 6 trees. how many ladybug houses should i place? is there a certain places where they have to go?? and how many gnomes and sculptures do i have to place near the plants to get a good rating from the garden club?? can there only be one scarecrow per one garden? beh, so many questions.
From what I have heard the ladybug houses don't help much with bug infestations and too many will slow down your computer (all those little bugs need animating )
If you have miles of memory, you can place one next to each tree. However. I would rather spray them. Its not just sculptures that add to your orchards beauty. Plant flowers around each tree. Add other trees to you lot. Put sprinklers for each flowerbed. And get that gold gardening Badge. Then you get the wishing well from the garden club:shocked: regards moon
I'm still experimenting with which plants work in which season, and discovering that my Real World experience doesn't always translate. It is now snowing on the second day of spring in Sim World, and hailing (the size of apricots!) here in the Real World on May 2, so it's hard to predict! So far all I've managed to raise are some mealy tomatoes and a few sour lemons, but I'm finally up to the gold badge, so I have hopes for the next year...
you can get the gold badge just through the hours put in, it seems. it doesn't matter if you actually have a good garden! since one of my sims is a stay-at-home, I have her out in all kinds of weather and now, inside the greenhouse too. so we'll see if the badge makes a difference in quality... haven't seen the garden club yet.
My one sim with a gold badge has two servos to help her with her garden, plus her husband helps out too, and she's gotten two wishing wells so far ... wish they'd stop giving them to me, frankly, unless i can figure out a way to sell 'em ... she's gotten $$ for having a nice garden. She and one of the servos both have gold badges, and having them talk to the trees does wonders for them. I also keep my trees inside a greenhouse to protect them better from the elements. Don't know if that makes them healthier or not. They still go dormant in the winter, unlike the vegetables. I make sure every inch is covered by sprinkler, and I only have one ladybug house per greenhouse. Most of her "real" garden is indoors, outside is mostly decorative plants, rose bushes, and garden decor like benches and the like. I'm going to experiment with potions once I can play again, thanks to Mirelly's tips in a different thread. Thanks, Mirelly!
If you have a green house you don't need the lady bugs. lol I have never had to spray in a green house. And trees in the green house. Well for pure astetic quality maybe. But Trees will still be dormant. However at least you won't have to spray them.
gah. if only i had known. i had to spray my enormous amount of trees on the FIRST day... aha. -goes to build a greenhouse-
Now that my sim can talk to the trees (which comes with the gold badge) it is making a big difference - plus it's a gas to watch. she's very dramatic and gestures a lot, kind of hops around in an encouraging way... on the other hand, things were looking so good I had a BBQ patio party, which went fine until someone caught on fire from the grill and we had to call the firemen to put them out... bummer of a party.
I may not need ladybugs in the greenhouse, but I like to have them anyway. They're cute. I haven't played in a while but I seem to remember having to spray my trees even though they were inside, but maybe I'm just crazy. Your birdhouse caught on fire? As in your real life birdhouse? That must have been some party.
yer. well, both in real life and in the sims 2 (custom item). both at a home party. well, for the real-life-burning-birdhouse, we go to throw ice at it and we out it out...
yeehah, I got into the Garden Club! Boy, are they hard to please. They looked at everything and were quite critical of one sickly bush. I think it's the little pond with the lily pads that swayed them. I got a bonus of 1000+ simoleans and a wishing well. ("We are not responsible for what happens when you make a wish...") So here goes - another thousand simoleans?! Why do I have the feeling it won't always turn out so good??
haha. the garden club hasnt came to my garden YET... but so many people are complaining about having too many wishing wells or something. i'm looking forward to have them over so they can take a look at my garden :]
Sayaka, you have to invite the Garden Club over (under Services when you make a phone call). Several will arrive and walk around everything, peering and poking and criticizing. Be sure to greet them nicely and have the place as spiffy as possible. Ponds and sculptures help but one old fogey got really mad at me because I had a gnome in the path he wanted to walk on. Also, don't forget to unlock the greenhouse! That almost ruined me. A snack is nice and of course, "have a drink!" Make sure it's not raining.
