The secret to a good business.

Okay, my pride has run out.... what is the secret?!

I can get to level 1, never any further, and I really want the manipulate reward!

Someone give me some tips.... i sell flowers. open lot (AKA no walls except around the loo) five person family (one elder, one adult, three teens) and although one of my teens has a gold sales badge, it still is a real struggle to stay at one star!

They mostly talk amonst themselves and ignore the customers....

What I do is have one person mind the store. I have my other sims skill or sleep or something so they don't cramp my style. I lock the doors to the store area and give the customers a bathroom they can use. If that one person gets tired I have someone relieve them.

I entertain the customer first, never start with a sale. Then I do the sale, usually basic sell even if I have more options. If the customer seems crabby I don't sell to them anymore but I don't let them feel ignored, either. I chat, or tell a joke, or something. I do round robin with the customers that are there.

If I'm running low on stuff I have someone else in the household restock.

Try to have a non-shy sim with high charisma man the store. That might help. Also, don't let your other sims annoy the customers. Give 'em something to do. If they insist on hanging around assign them to cashier, or restock.

    Hope this helps.

    LOL Kimblee.

    Tips for a business
    1. Make sure that every controllable sim on the lot (employees are not directly controllable but may be given orders. Never leave family members without work, or something else, to do or they will interfere with the business.
    2. I think a sim-business is best run from a community lot.
    3. You must keep shelves stocked with product. If you're making the product on sire (eg flowers, toys, robots) do not have all your stock on display. It can be difficult to keep up production with sales and out of stock markers on shelves drive down sales and business rating.
    4. Customer stars = rewards. Have you sales staff watching out for the confused who need a can I help you ... watch the thought bubble as a guide to what they want
    5. If you really want it to run smoothly get Pescado's Business Runs You mod and hang the Soviet hammer and sickle on the wall and let it run the business for you. Alternatively you can hand Merola's multipainting in the shop and use it periodically to max out everyone's motives ... there's a cheat for this too with OFB but I can't remember it offhand. Either is useful when you're learing the skills needed to build up a business. Sometimes it is difficult to balance the need to keep everyone conscious and not pants-wetting stinky or starving and just keeping the shelves filled and the lines and the cash register moving ...
    6. Flower shops should be easier cos you can spread some snapdragon bouquets around the place to keep workforce and customer motives well filled (though make sure to check that every snapdragon bouquet is "safe" ... one bad one in a room can drain motives faster than an industrial vacuum cleaner  )
    7. Finally don't be frightened to throw out the customer who is there loitering with intent to socialise rather than to buy. There's usually one or more per day. They have no money and just want to chat and play kicky ball ... or complain. Throw 'em out. The other customers will appreciate it too even if it seems your business rep has taken a small hit the return is greater in more goodwill generated by a smoother shopping experience ....

Snapdragon bouquets? Am I missing something? Is that a gold flower badge item? My best florist is still at wildflowers and tulips (hey, I've got a lot of households to run ...)

    What does it do?

Snapdragons are a gold badge floristry item. They have a small sphere of influence where they continuously refresh needs bars (except energy) ... putting one a desk where the kids do their homework works like a charm

Huh. Cool. New incentive to get that badge, thanks, Mirelly.

Note of irony: Castor Nova finally got his gold robotics badge, and his household is full!!!

Maybe it is time for the in-laws to move out. :D

Thanks for that Mirelly. Sorry, I tend to overlook the obvious... or what would've made sense... quite often.

    Thanks,
    John
