Hold down the [Ctrl] key and then click and drag, as if you are building, and the wall will be removed. Likewise for the modular stairs used for decks as these cannot be picked up. The same technique is used to remove swimming pools, roofs, wallpaper, floor coverings as well. When you remove stuff you get back some of the money that you paid for it.
