Too Many Files? Too Many Mods?

Last night I downloaded a hacked item from another website. My game had been acting very slow before I downloaded the object, but now it's creeping along at a snails pace!! It is very frustrating to wait for things to load!

I remember that when the original Sims game first launched, there was a limit to how many files you could have. I am wondering if this is the problem. I have to admit I have been a downloading fool recently. :( I'm sure this is the problem.

I had downloaded "Sims Explorer" for TS1 and used it to weed out skins and objects that were older and that I did not use. I wish there was such a thing for TS2.

So, is it possible to have too many files? Or am I going to have to take out my hacks and mods? Or are there some that just do not "play well"together?

Yes, if you download to much on your com,ts2 will run MUCH slower. If you want it to run faster, you have to options 1: get a better memory card or 2: don't download so many objects.:devious:

    Speed Is Of The Essence

;) I know exactly what you mean, when I first got TS2 I downloaded a LOT of new things. The speed in my game went from mock 100 to mock 0 (slightly exagerated LOL:( ) So I had to get rid of most of it,:( and pick ONLY the things that I REALLY REALLY wanted. Not the things I kinda wanted, but could live without.:D ;)

Thanks Kristal. Can you also share with us what the hacks were that you removed? Send me a PM if you feel the list may be embarrassing :p But the list would be useful to know.

well my ts2 is on my laptop, and i found it was running slowly, so i uninstalled ts1 and it runs a teensy tiny bit quicker now, but there is a difference. i have no internet to download things from on my laptop cos i only got it for xmas, but do you think i should install it on a pc instaed of my laptop? xxx

It depends which computer has the best overall combination of system specs cute one. If you have a PC which has internet access can you connect the laptop to it with a network cable (very cheap) and set up a network (use the windows network wizard) then you can download anything you need.

Puzzled though ... if you got the laptop for Christmas why did you also install TS1???

I'm in the same situation as you, star2cute4u - my internet-connected PC is quite old, so I play on my boyfriend's laptop, which was top o' the line in December 03. I use an mp3 player to transport files between the two, so if you have one you can use it instead of shelling out a small amount for a network cable.

If your desktop has a CD burner, you can download them onto that, then burn them on a CD, take them off the CD in the Laptop and install them in the game.

I used to do it all the time with my old laptop (which was not internet connected) and my desktop.

As to the number of things you can put in the download file, it isn't an absolute number as far as I can tell. I suspect that performance (and load times) are the critical thing with them. (At least I hope I never find the ceiling. I've got 2 gb in that folder right now, and like Kristalrose, "they all look so pretty...")

However, I've noticed that if I run Homecrafter and Body Shop first, then it doesn't take so long for the game itself to load. And once I've started up the game with those downloads, the next time I start up the game (unless I've added more downloads), it starts up a lot faster. It's as if starting up the applications organizes the information more efficiently so that it can restart quicker the next time. (Of course, I usually only start up the game once a day, and I also download about once a day, so generally I have to wait a while for it to get started.)

Nope, nothing emberassing. (I kept that one ;) LOL)

I removed the hacked painting that modified Sims personalities, wants, and refreshed all their bars. I also removed JMP's Novel Progress Bar and The Slow Aspriation Hack.

I think that you want Merola's painting that can be found over at modthesims2 (which I note is now separating its adult content from general stuff ... tho some caution is still advised).

Flame: Go read this thread: http://forums.worldsims.org/showthread.php?t=4157 It has the information you need.

I forgot to mention that I also removed some hacked Alienware Computers that I didn't mean to download. Along with those computers I also downloaded buyable cars that I did not want, but I can't figure out how to get rid of them. They are not "hacked" and they don't have a filename that spells out in plain English, "Buyable Mini-van package file" or whatever.

MTS2 only sends you to Merola's site to get it: www.simchaotics.com

It's the multi-painting that has the most. It's got 3 sections which have things like needs, skills, interests, the aspiration meter, etc on it.
