    Trip to NYC

Hey guys, my mom and I are going to NYC sometime in October or sometime around there for my 13th birthday. We have sorta of an idea of what to do. Times Square, Statue of Liberty, etc. Are there and hidden beauties or some easy to see ones that are just magnificent? Basically, whats fun to do there?

Oooo! The Cloisters Museum! It's like taking a trip to some European Medieval Monastery without leaving Manhattan! It stands in a park at the northern tip of Manhattan Island where the Hudson meets the East river, and is simply breathtaking. I spent all day there...good thing I had a digital camera with plenty of memory cause I took over a thousand pictures!

Here are a couple, just to give you a feel for the place!

Seems I'm going to US myself in late October.... It's not really confirmed yet, but it will be mainly a business trip for me and Paul. IF we go, we also have limited time on our hands, although there's so many places and people I would just LOVE to meet...
We're going to Chicago for a huge exhibition within the packaging industry. Suppliers to meet. Then to Kansas City to visit our biggest suppliers for spare parts. Then to NYC to meet with relatives I never met earlier. They start to get old now and is my mom's cousins... But I will keep the tips what to see here in my mind and show Paul. :)
Would have just loved to go to LA as well. You know how much I would love to meet you Josh. But time is not into our hands...

Yes. It's really big. Mom has been there twice now. She was lucky to visit the twin towers in 1976. And she told me it's HUGE - compared to Stockholm. :D But I would first of all like to visit and get to know my mom's cousins over there. They're getting old now and it would be great to see them at least once in their lives.

I have no clue where to go in just a couple of days...

I will talk to Paul about that, because I've realized that we probably will have to go back during the Swedish "All-saints-weekend"... Holiday weekends usually does very nasty things to flight tickets... Maybe I can use that as an argument? I SO much want to see you Josh!!! You've done so much for me in the past and always been such a great friend! [IMG]

Oh I wonna go to NY too!! My friend went their and she said it was great. She came home with lots of cool stuff as well.

My family's thinking of going to visit the US some time over the summer hols. That would be great. But in that case we would be going to California and not New York. :)

I am so behind the times on this one. lol.

Yeah, there's a lot to do in NYC, especially in October. Although I've never been there during Autumn, you have to visit Central Park. Otherwise, you should probably do all of the touristy stuff either really early in the morning or late in the day--Empire State Building, etc. Then you can walk a little bit.

Some stuff you really shouldn't miss in NYC:

--The 5th Avenue Apple Store (the big glass cube)
    --Times Square
    --FAO Schwartz
    --SoHo
--Little Italy (There's this GREAT little restaurant there... "Lunella's"--I highly recommend their baked ziti and tiramisu)
    --Rockefeller Center
--The NBC Store (it's right near Rockefeller Center)
--St. Patrick's Cathedral (it's right near the NBC Store)
--Trump Towers (if you go down one flight of stairs, they have pretty good food. It's cafeteria style--well, classier--and they have REALLY good roast beef for around $12. Not bad for a meal in NYC.)

...And if that isn't enough, you could always catch a cab to take you to the site of the World Trade Center. Then, you can walk to the waterfront (it's literally across the street and through a building), and there's a large pavillion with a restaurant, trees, and some tables. And if you're hungry or thirsty on the waterfront, but not enough for a meal, there's a little ice cream parlor.

Some stuff you really SHOULD miss in NYC:

    --Hell's Kitchen

NYC is one of the most amazing cities. Period. End of story. You'll have a blast. :D Sorry for checking in so late.

PS. Do not make the mistake of squeezing in the Statue of Liberty on your first or last days in NYC. That in and of itself is, quite literally, a full day trip. If you try to do this, you will not be able to tour the rest of the city without exhaustion and frustration. :)

PPS. Oh... and go to the Manhattan piers to see the cruise ships. Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth 2 won't be docking there, unfortunately, but it's an impressive sight nonetheless.

 That's way too much. We will only have 1-2 days in NYC as we need to get back. Paul needs to get on working and I don't have unlimited care of the animals. And since they are like 70+ guinea pigs, 4 rabbits, 1 cat - not to mention about 100 indoor flowers.... Also it will depend on what my relatives suggest we do. They do live on Manhattan - but that's a BIG place in itself. (Mom's been warning me about the size of the place. Lol)

And I'm not sure of what I DO want to see. I'm very much into nature stuff. Somewhere in NYC there's this Saintpaulia nursery.... I have their webaddress somewhere... I would just plain LOVE going there. They also export plants to Sweden... :p need to talk to them. on the other hand - that would really, really get Paul "out-of-his-wits".

My family always did it all in a day. :p

Seriously though... you can pick and choose among them. They're all awesome. Have fun in NYC. :)

I recommend a small Broadway show (as in one at a smaller theatre; Spring Awakening, if it is still there, maybe Pirate Queen, though that is at a larger theatre), Canal Street, using the Staten Island Ferry to get pictures of the Statue of Liberty (the ferry is free), maybe a performance at Carnegie Hall (depends on what is there), and some of the local foreign-food restaurants (Green Tea ice cream at this one Vietnamese restaurant was very good - I know it's not REAL Vietnamese cuisine, but it's good).

    Well.

It's october already. Paul is scheduled for THIS many jobs - amongst them Scotland again. So. In order to make it in late October he and me would have to rush ourselves into a heart attack.... And that's about the last thing we want. Also. The time we would have on our hands would be way to little, due to the time my friend has to help me with the animals. And it's no good to come home to a bunch of dead or almost starved to death ones...

So. Yesterday evening we decided to start plan now for the spring and maybe be able to take at least 14 days over in US. I mean - it's not like it's "around the corner". :p

That way - IF possible we would be able to have a couple of days in LA :D - NYC - see the Niagara falls - our suppliers in Kansas City, maybe a couple of others as well I know. Like Darkwire.... :D (An old Sims-chatter from the days it was about, and a good friend.)

MY thought is to fly directly to LA and then work our way back and end up in NYC- and then fly home from, probably, Kennedy airport which is closest to my relatives.. Sort of a criss-cross. I'll see what Paul says about it. It will take lots of planning - and also to make sure my friend can take care of the animals for that long.

There's So many places I would like to visit. I would love to visit one of the true indian reservations down in Arizona, I would love to visit NASA Space Center in Florida (Paul would love that too) I would love to see ALL my friends across the US.... But it's a huge continent, so all of it isn't possible. Also - there's always a budget right... Wish I had a proper money-tree... :p

    Otherwise. I'm fine... :D

I'm with you Helen - there are a few chat friends across the USA that I want to visit, but I gotta win the lottery first. :p I still keep in touch with darkwire too, he's a nice guy. It would be awesome if there could be a Simchat event, where we can all meet together. Imagine that - everyone 'hopping around' and throwing pudding balloons and 'falling over, alive' (as Ooper used to say :p). Also, do you remember call_me_ash? She's in Utah and my fiance wants to meet her too when we make a trip to the USA.

I think our schedule would be: New England (missunderstood1), Missouri/Kansas (three Sims 1 BBS/ Maplestory friends), Colorado (darkwire), Utah (call_me_ash) and finally LA (ManagerGarlic :p :ducks: ). I could probably add about 4 more people on that list but then I would need a couple of months to visit lol.

/me gives Helen a hundred money trees to nurture and grow. ;)

/me buys a bunch of lottery tickets :p

Edit: Yes, you must visit NASA in Florida - it's an amazing experience. Forget the Disney stuff, just go to NASA, Sea World and the Cirque Du Soleil performance on the Disney Boardwalk. And the Titanic Experience tour.
