    University Purchase Concerns

Question:Where did everyone get thier copy of University? I have seriously been off a whole month so all of March I thought it was February because somebody never changed the calendars in this house, so I didn't preorder it. Is there anyway I can check to see if they have it in stock so i dont have to drive out there to find out they dont have it?

Oh, they are everywhere! Gamestop, EB Games, Wally-world, Target all carry them.

Make sure you read up on how to prepare your game and BACK IT UP before you install.:dead: If you don't (like me) then it won't be a pretty sight.

What do you mean by back it up? Save the neighborhoods so if I save with a cell phone open it won't kill my niehgborhood like JM Pescado said?

You could just order online through places like Amazon.

I think I'd be more concerned about the loss of time than I would be about getting the game. I hope you didn't miss anyone's birthdays or special occassions while you were in this time-hole... =)

That's so true. EB is poorly priced when it comes to games.

I haven't seen any University expansions around where I am... the stores must be slow, or they're out of stock.

Short answer: Yes, just like that.
Well, do some reading in the threads here, the official BBS, and Mod the Sims 2. The main problem is that if you have anything downloaded that is not compatible, it will mess with your game. The problems are with hacks, mods, and recolored objects. I think Uni is a great game and I have a wonderful time playing it. But it can be buggy and tempramental.

O sort of like when TS2 first came out before they made the patch? If so I got you. :)

Part of it is like that.

But also, if you have any downloads, especially mods/hacks, they can interfere with the game. (Some of them have interfering codes.)

Before you install the game, remove the entire Sims 2 folder from your My Documents and put it on the desktop. Except for bad saves and hacks which install as part of the Sims 2's .exe (as both of them corrupt the .exe of the game itself), that will remove many of the things which can cause problems with installing TS2U.

If you've installed anything that changes the Sims2's .exe (such as the nudity patch), then you need to completely uninstall after you've removed the Sims2 folder from My Documents. (All you need for your saved games is in the My Documents\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 folder, so that's why you "back it up" by taking it out or copying it out to your desktop. Just renaming it something else, as some people use to tell people to do, doesn't help and can cause problems.) Then reinstall your TS2, then the TS2U.

Once you know that the game is working "clean" (ie without anything from your downloads), then you can start replacing things from your Sims2 folder. (You can generally put the whole thing back in without the downloads folder without much of a problem. Most of the things than can cause problems are in the downloads folder.) The *last* thing to add if everything else is working, is the objects or clothes on new meshes and the hacks. These are the most touchy for TS2U, especially the hacks.

Some of the hacks will work fine, like JMP's no cheering hack. Others will interfere (such as the old "pay at box" and his security system, which is why he's updated several of them.)

One thing to warn you about: many of us have found TS2U to be extremely addicting. You may end up spending far more time than you expected playing the game. ;)

OK, I'm really glad that you told me that, because I went to J.M.'s site and I haven't gotten around to putting them in the game yet. I backed up the files on a CD because I delete files that do nothing but sit on my desktop. Plus thats alot of memory sitting around doing nothing. But the game works fine and I got University so I can't wait to play it.

wow $29.99 US, that is a good deal even when converted to CDN funds. I wonder why the big discrepencies between major retailers? I mean excluding Costco, it would be nice to see all the retailers have the same price. My 2 cents.:)

34.99 at Gamestop! It was actually a mistake because his handwriting was so bad he thought his 39 was a 34. I didn't say anything because I didn't realize it until I got in the car. It's only about a 5 dollar difference, but hey I got over!!

O, I thought I got over, but I guess not. That 4 really looked like a 9 though.
