    Victorian Style Mansion

being an avid ts2 architect, i decided i would follow earlier advice and build a house from a ready floor plan. after some deep searching, i came across this beautiful victorian style mansion and have decided i would take the challeneg of building it. ill let you guys know how it comes along. heres some pics while you wait:

NOTE: due to game limitations and the natural "randomness" of the floor plan's dimensions, i cannot continue this house. in light of this, i have built my own original house based upon ideas pulled from this and other floor plans. new thread coming up.

I know. I too had a grandiose plan that had to be modified due to limitations ... I also like to make run-down looking homes, something you can't really do in the sims.

Anyone want to try to make some rubble? A nice crumbled wall with the remains nearby? I love ruins ...

vchat, what was the problem with replicating this house? It appears to be L shaped with a smaller L shaped second floor. Did replicating the dimensions make it too large? It's a lovely home. I replicated my first home exactly and although it was average sized in RL, in-game it appears massive.

SBW, I, too, would like to build homes a little more worn looking. I found some outdoor clapboard siding that is faded and worn. I can't find enough stuff to achieve the look I want either. On mts2 they had a group making a bunch of trashy stuff but it was way over the top for me. I did download all the items, building materials, and even raggedy clothing and it took up a tremendous amount of space. I deleted all of it. I simply want Persimmon Grove to make all of her stuff for sims2. I don't think that's asking too much, do you?

one part was that i couldnt get the stais placed on top of one another. second was that the uper stairs wouldnt fit in the 3rd floor. the landing up there would end up outside the house. third was that i couldnt fit anything on the 3rd floor due to the roof.

Are you talking about house that's showing on your post or the one the link you provided shows?

Yep, the stairs are usually a problem. Maxis could stand to do a little work with them or offer another stair option. In real life you can make the stair treads narrower or alter the pitch slightly to make stairways work in a given space. I have one home that I cannot make the stairs work. I've made landings, boolpropped elevation, adjusted floor level, etc. I'm going to have to wait for an elevator or a spiral staircase. :(

or use stealth stairs. but ive never really been comfortable with those myself as they look like someone screwed up the stairs somewhere and only did a small section

I've found moss-covered walls (can't remember where) and a lot of "garage funk" stuff at Tribeca I didn't use yet because I'm more old and ruined than new and trashy, taste-wise.

I made a cool house filled with plants and a tree in the middle that has moss covered walls outside and rambling uneven rooms, but I would love to include a ruin on the premises, or have part of the house be crumbling ... I may try to do something to that effect in SimPE, have some idea how to proceed. I'll let you know if I succeed.

What I'd really like is for a wall to be crumbly at the top, not just a stone fence. Half-walls would be ideal for this if you can modify them in SimPE ... I'll have to check.
