visiting a home business *sigh* This has been bugging me all week and I never get time to try it, so I'm just gonna ask... Can you take your Sims to visit a home business in their car or a taxi, or only those on community lots?
Only community lots. I wish they could visit their neighbors! Wouldn't that be sweet? But right now, home businesses still count as no visit zones. Your sims will show up and blow all their money while you're playing the lot, though. Pescado has a hack to keep them from doing this if you are concerned. I don't like to cheat, and it's hard to keep track! But if I see a lot of items in inventory that weren't there before I sell most of them and then give my sims an extra $1000 or so to make up for depreciating costs. If they're broke, that is. If they're rich I don't care. But some of my families are struggling as it is. Hey, kids are expensive!
Yeah, I knew about that part. I had Pescado's hack for a little while but then got a different one from somebody else that does it a little differently - your player Sims still show up and buy things, but it doesn't stick... i.e. the money doesn't get deducted and the item doesn't go into the Sim's inventory, it just disappears off into oblivion. I like it better that way. It just sucks that you can't go and visit a home business, because I want my Sims to be able to buy the craftables but I refuse to do a community lot business because of the whole time passing issue. Monique's hacked computers let you buy robots "online", but none of the other things, and I'm really interested in trying out the toys.
You can buy the crafting station to make the toys; without opening a business, takes longer for them to get the skills up, but it is possible that way.
it says in the manual for open for business that when your sims buy stuff at a home business lot, the stuff automaticly appears in their inventary, also, if you sell these items before you place them then you get the FULL VALUE of the item back, so sbw, stop giving them 1k each time maybe the only way to buy something specific would be to wait until the sim appears on the lot and then to block the entrance to anything you dont want him to buy and put stuff you want him to buy right in front of him, then use a good sales technique! of course, this only works if they do visit the lot, which you can gaurantee, as soon as you want him to, he wont show up for ages! the only other way i can think of is to put stuff you want in the business owners inventary, and get him to move in with the other family temperarely, offload his stuff and then move him back. though this is a little tedius and time consuming. good luck!
Well, they lied. For example, I bought a Moneywell computer and only got $750 for it when I sold it. I hadn't touched it at all. Pescado's figured this out and he says you get the depreciated value. I think that stinks. I'm considering getting the moneywire hack so my rich sims can help out my poor sims without me having to resort to kaching. Max and Avery, for example, have almost nothing while Max's dad Apollo's rolling in it. A real dad would wire them money, dontcha think?
Another thing that would have been helpful is if they had enabled gift-giving of inventoried items... that way I could have the business owner invite over the Sim I want to give a craftable item to, and just give it to them. (If I wanted it to be a fair business transaction I could always arrange a money transfer via Pescado's money order or Monique's computer.) Hmm, maybe I could use testingcheats to make the visiting Sim selectable and then move the item into his/her inventory - has anyone tried that?
I've done that! Not using the testingcheats though, by using the insiminator. I had someone move out and I had forgot to pack a picture from a photo booth of her and her cousin when they were teenagers. So Mom and Dad invited her back home, I made her selectable, grabbed the picture, and unselected her and sent her back to college. When I went to play her, the picture was still in her inventory!
I've sometimes had trouble moving photobooth pictures "home" from college. I get a blinking blue square. Taking old ones to college hasn't been a problem though. Has anyone else had this problem?
I had one where the original subjects of the picutres died, and their pictures died with them! Seriously, they turned into the blue blinking thing after the sims died off. No nice picutres of Grandma and Grandpa from the "old days" for my Simmies. :(
Hmmmm ... that didn't happen to me. I still have lots of photobooth pix of Lola, and a couple of Tyson, thank goodness. Plus the photos they took just before Tyson died. Amazing how sentimental they make me!
