But the thing you gotta understand is an american/canadian is the amazing combination of many nationalities. For instance I am English, Irish, French, maybe a little Swiss and Carpathian Russian (from a part of Poland that the border changed many, many times.) and probably some Hungarian, too. (We think that that is where by paternal grandmother may have come from.) Anyhow, just being called an American, only tells a very little part of the story.
naw! technically an american could also be from Mexico....... Maybe reference to citizenship instead... I don't know I probably am making more out of it than was intended. sorry.
I see some confusion here! Nationality means what NATION (like what Country) are you from... I think you wanted what Ethnicity or what Ethnic Group you are from. That gives a better idea of culture and bloodlines and ancestry if that's what you were looking for. I'm American but I'm a huge mix of most European and Nordic countries when it comes to my ancestry. My hubby is American but he's a naturalized citizen, he was born in Mexico and they moved here when he was 6. It will be weird when we have kids and my own kids will be put in a different "race" category from ME since they will get counted as "hispanic" or "latino" and I'm just plain old "white." What a weird thing to have statistics tell you your own children will be counted as a different race from you!

When i read it i just had pressumed that American meant like oh yeah im livin in america hehe but it would make sence to say white or caucasin instead of american
