Where can I go for a Gov't Issued ID?

    Hey everyone,

I'm 15 and need a photo ID to go to a particular event that I want to attend... and I need to get it by Tuesday. :(

Anyway, I hear that you can get them from NJ's DMV, but on their website they say "Anyone 17 and older...." you get the idea. A passport would be too expensive and take too long... for the form with the ID number must be in the mail by Tuesday. Maybe I should contact my town hall or county clerk...?

Any ideas? I'm going nuts over this!

Thanks for listening to me ramble,

If you need this Monday, then you are out of luck. If you can do this Tuesday morning, the DMV photo ID is the only option that I know of that can be obtained on such short notice.

In NC, you can obtain a photo ID from any DMV for 10 bucks at any age. All government offices will be closed Monday, so I'd suggest you find the closest DMV in your state and find at least one other office. Since this was a holiday weekend, every kid that had their 16th birthday Saturday, Sunday, or Monday will be standing in line outside the door Tuesday morning to take their driver's test. Check your state's DMV site for required documentation and take more. No matter what the web site says, no matter that you call just before leaving...the person behind the counter will inform you that you don't have all that is needed. Take birth certificate, SSN, your last report card, baptismal record, confirmation certificate, tax return, and something that proves your residency. Go over prepared since you've only got one shot. Good luck!

I thought you could get a moped drivers license at 15 ... unfortunately it looks like it takes 20 days ...

It doesn't look promising. How about things like student associations? Student Union cards are the key to many a bargain where I live. Failing all of that hit your local library first thing tomorrow morning and if that draws a blank try your local police station ... cops really enjoy doing something that doesn't involve writing out tickets, or using handcuffs or a broom :(

Not in NJ, unfortunately--have to be 16 or 16 1/2... can't remember which.

Some place the county recommended a few miles away. While not gov't issued (don't have 'em for people under 17 in NJ!) it is gov't recognized and accepted by all the airlines. Hopefully if it's good enough for airlines, it'll be good enough for Cunard.

and what is considered government recognized? Care to spill the beans? :p

Spill the beans? Ok. Burlington County NJ does not issue photo ID's at their County Clerk's office (unlike other counties) and in NJ you must be 17 to have a non-drivers' photo ID from the DMV. So they will send you to a store in Mount Holly to get an ID card.

Anywhere else, the normal county clerks (like in Mercer County) and DMV's actually issue their residents ID Cards. And I have no idea what is considered gov't recognized, only that I was told to go there by my county. :p
