    Wikipedia's credibility takes a hit

As if their credibility wasn't shot through anyway...

This may be old news but I just got around to posting it...and it seriously raises more questions about the validity of an all-come-and-edit encyclopaedia. The user who claimed to have several high qualifications actually was a community college dropout who had used books such as "Christianity for Dummies".

"When news of the latest Wikipedia scandal broke, concerning EssJay, or rather Ryan Jordan, who had claimed to be a professor teaching at a private university, and was uncovered by The New Yorker last week, Wikipedias founder, Jimmy Wales, professed not to be worried about it and appeared to sweep the whole episode under the carpet."

"EssJay, or Jordan, had worked on over 16,000 Wikipedia entries, either writing or editing them..."

LOL I noticed that report. I still like Wikipedia as a recource. As far as I am concerned no-one should rely upon a single source for anything ... and don't be fooled into thinking the majority is always right, either.

For example, did anyone see The Great Global Warming Swindle (and here) ... I liked it cos it pandered to my prejudices that the great big climate change debate is more a cyncial political ploy than an issue with a serious, practical agenda.

Yup, I always thought that teachers liked to see a HUGE list of resources at the end of your term paper, all of them supporting your argument. Wikiwashy is good for links to other interesting sites. That's what I like about it.

I hope and pray that you are right, because if you are not... :( :tombstone: < humans

I actually haven't seen that article, but I don't need to to know it's a scare tactic. However I will save it for later when I have more time to read longer articles.

I also haven't read, or heard of, that news regarding Wikipedia... But I'm not surprised at all seeing as how almost anyone can edit any article as they see fit. That's one of the main reasons why if I'm seriously looking for important info I'll check out several different places to see if it backs up the data.
