I will get Windows 7 when it rolls out to upgrade my laptop... I'll give my current laptop to my mom soon because she needs one for her work!
I'd like to test it out first, though, at a Best Buy, Office Depot, or Staples first to get the feel of it before buying it. Its better to make yourself feel comfortable with the interface first before actually buying it.
I'm not sure you can try googling the windows 7 release and see if you can find it but if there are any keys left is another story. You may be able to find it on one of the torrent sites.
Nah, I don't want to risk myself using torrent sites to download a Windows 7 trial! I'd be better off purchasing the original software once it's released. The main key: better buy genuine software than risking fines and jail.
Microsoft stopped distributing the RC a while back. There are only around 5 different keys given out to everyone as their servers crashed at the release or unique keys. If you computer can run Vista, then it can definitely run 7. It's a great OS and for me is as stable as XP currently is.
Considering I hated everything I heard about Vista from it's release date I was kinda reluctant to try W7 but I have to admit it was surprising easy to use. I tried the 64 bit Ultimate version too.
I preordered Windows 7 for my mom's computer so she could get a bit of a performance boast over Vista. So let's hope it works
I have Vista Home Edition on my laptop, so probably my HP laptop will be ready for Windows 7, but I might get a new laptop with Windows 7 instead...
I haven't met any computer that isn't Vista Ready (not Vista Capable) that isn't ready for Windows 7. In fact, some of the higher end Windows XP machines are likely to be ready for Windows 7
Not really, it's really the first consumer OS with 64bit that is stable. XP64 and Vista I would not call stable 64bit OSs, mainly due to the limited driver support in XP64 though, Vista just liked to crash anyway. SC4 just needs a good CPU and a fair amount of RAM and it will play nicely. As it's only a 32bit app, it is still limited to 1 core and IIRC around 2GB of RAM.
I'll be interested to see how well that XP mode works ! (I think that's what it's called!) I may keep two seperate hard drives one with XP for my older games and the other with W7.
Hmmm... I'd better be safe than sorry: I'll keep all my files backed up in a flash drive before upgrading to W7 then to make my laptop stable!
If you have enough space on the drive make a partition and then install W7 on the other partition. That way you can have crappy Vista and W7 together. Actually you should wipe the drive for the best performance.
XP mode is just a image running in Microsoft's Virtual PC. I was really hoping it would be more integrated but no, it just runs like any virtual client like VMware.
