Guillaume Pierre took to Twitter to bid a fond farewell to Maxis Studios after twelve years at the famed studios. According to Guillaume, the entire Maxis team has been laid off despite a valiant fight out of a difficult and weird situation.
During Maxis’ time at Emeryville, it released some controversial titles including Spore, the reboot of SimCity, and had limited success with DarkSpore.
Well it was a fun 12 years, but it's time to turn off the lights and put the key under the door. #RIPMaxisEmeryville

Additional Maxis Team members have also taken to Twitter posting their thoughts. It appears EA Human Resources is working with the Maxis Studios teams to discuss their future at Electronic Arts, and beyond.
Sad to see end of Maxis Emeryville. So many great folks and so much talent, but I guess all good things must end. Best of luck to everyone!

Very sad to hear about Maxis in Emeryville closing. Working on Spore and Sims 2 with amazing people were the highlights of my years in SF.

Will Wright moved some of his team in the early 2000’s to Emeryville to work on Spore while the remaining team stayed at Redwood Shores to work on The Sims.
