    Graphics problems

I bought a copy of The Sims 2 a few hours ago and installed it. Works fine, starts fine and looks fine. The problem starts a few minutes into the game when the screen seizes up and the menu starts flickering big time and appearing on top of itself, things in the game disappear and are replaced by black stripes. The game also takes ages and ages to save, and occasionally when in Buy Mode it will seize up and run really slow when you select an item to buy to read its description. Running at the default graphics settings and cutting back on the processes the computer is running isn't helping much.

    My specs:

    Intel Pentium 4 2.66 Ghz
    512mb RAM
    Windows XP
    23.6Gb spare space
    40Gb total space
    Direct X 9.0
    NVIDIA GeForce 4 Mx440 8xAGP 64mb
    Display driver: nv4_disp.dll 6.14.0001.4303 3/3/03
    Total video memory 64mb

The game runs fine initially but breaks down after maybe five minutes or so. I just spent $90AUD on it and I'd hate to flush that much money down the drain.

    Help is much appreciated. Cheers.

Two main things I can see there,
1st you need Direct X 9.0C and 2nd the graphics card you're using has very little video memory, although as you're only using the base game it should be ok, your display driver however is over 4 yrs old so updating the driver should help a lot.

You are running 43.03 version of Forceware. Get the new one. It's like right now in the 95s.
