    little help?

i went to install the sims delux (installing the whole lot again) and i had an error when i tried to install.

"Error trying to find sku registration number, aborting installation."

first thought was, maybe the cd needs cleaning, so i cleaned it a few times just to be sure. Then i got the same error.

So then i treid a few more things thinking that maybe their was a problem becuase i had the game previously installed but i took it off about a month ago. Alas nothing, i've treid again and again but i can't seem to install the game, any help is much appreciated.:)

(the guide will still be upgraded, becuase i've been running the sims on my laptop so the guide is still going!....... incase anybody cared :p)

I don't have Deluxe but I can try to say some stuff from the expansion packs. Sims can leave traces of stuff behind.. maybe you checked for this already. I know one time it lef tsomething in the registry , so when I installed to a different path, all my aps went to the old path looking for the game. broke it big time. I'm not at all sure what an SKU number is.. last time I saw that was at a cash register working in a gas station.. stupid bar codes.
*kicks the tumbleweed* ok . at least we were here.

Perhaps it could be related to the registry? Use Sims Eraser and clean :D

    The sims homepage.

Click Help at top of the page - scroll to questions about... click installation/then the first point: uninstalled my game, and when I try ...

Read the instructions and then download Simseraser.

I know there is a sort of direct link to it, but I don't have that one.

    Good luck Grey. :classic:

    probably is the registry!

to get an eraser you go to wal-mart or an office store u know u erase chalkbaords an whiteboards! LOL j/k you had that coming LOL

In a seriosu manner all the above posts are probably correct go to START, RUN, type REGEDIT hit enter... you can get into your regitry manually an check but don't unless you know exact;ly whats ur doing I have used it some before not much!

    GOOD LUCK ALL HAVE FUN

To mess around with the registry is not recommendable for beginners. That's for sure. Sims eraser is a program you can have standby if you need to uninstall another time. It takes so little time to double click on that exe file. Much, much faster than go into regedit and search. And it's safer.
So for all others. Use Sims eraser if you're not 100% sure of what the registry is and what it's doing and how to work it. :classic:

Good day to all. I am new at this so I may not be posting my "question" correctly. I have all of "The Sims" and I am having trouble trying to download for "TheSims.Com" site. I have changed computers, and I have changed internet providers. When I enter my user name, and then the pass word, it says invalid. When I tried to re-register my cd's it says "number already registered. What can I do. Can anyone offer any assistance.

Thank you, and I look forward to a response.

    Kirah

I just wanted to say that I agree with knowing about the Registry before deleting anything yourself. I once deleted a left over registry file from a web browser called Neoplanet. I didn't know that at that time, I needed the registry because some of the files were being used to help run Internet Explorer. Needless to say, deleting them was a mistake and I encountered numerous problems, too many to list. :) I tried "scanreg/restore" in Dos which didn't work and I ended up reinstalling everything. But sometimes you have to make mistakes in order to learn from them. Just some of those mistakes can be a real pain. :)

    Sincerely,
    Amy Sims

Last sunday, I had to reinstall all my Sims games. I used the Sims Eraser but it doesnt work good enough. I had to clean my registry manually (OK, I know what Im doing).
Why does the Eraser work sometimes and sometimes not?

You can find it on your unleashed/superstar discs. Its under a folder called SimsEraser or Eraser. I don't remember but there was a thread about it
