Bored, please help I've been waiting all morning for a client to call. I've finished my other projects. My husband and I are meeting for lunch in half an hour or so ... want to take bets she calls me in 25 minutes? We were supposed to work on a project today so I cleared my calendar, and all I've done is sit. And read Worldsims. Please, somebody, talk to me. I'm bored out of my mind.
I'm sorry hon. I'll talk to you! I know how it feels to have nothing to do but sit and be bored. It makes me almost feel like I'm not earning my paycheck! (I said almost!) We are supposed to be finishing our quarterly newsletter. The copier went bad last week. The repairman didn't show up until Friday afternoon, after I leave. Two of my staffers came in on the weekend and made copies fine. (Yes, I pay them for that. No, I did not make them do it, they took it upon themselves.) Today, I come in, clear calandar, ready to copy 250 newsletters, fold, tape, label. I wanted them done today so I could mail them out tomorrow. Well, guess what? Copier is broken, again!! PLUS, we are out of paper and I had to order more from the storeroom, will be here tomorrow. Hey, at least you're doing lunch with your Hubby. Where y'all going to eat? Someplace good?
Well, we invited a new friend so it depends on whether she's a picky eater, but I'd love to go out for Chinese/Vietnamese. We have a lovely little cafe that serves both. Yummy. Sorry to hear about your copier woes. I feel like I am earning a paycheck. They pay me to be available. Unfortunately, that means sitting around a lot. Yawn. Thanks for writing back! Nice to know I'm not floating in space.
I'm feeling the same today. My boyfriend was sick last week and now I have no voice. Considering that I work in a call center that kind of limits what I'm able to do today. So I'm researching policies that have been approved but for some reason they haven't been put into an active status yet. So really it takes me about 2 minutes to read the notes in the policies and then write it down to pass on to other people to follow up on...oh, and earlier I went through a stack of returned mail and opened them with a letter opener! That was exciting...not... What resturant are you speaking of SBW? It sounds good, I might have to check it out sometime if I haven't been there yet.
Nope, I'm floating along here with you. MMMM, Chineese food. I've never had Vietnameese. What's it like? Remember, I don't get out much. I have been to a sushi bar once, and to a Japaneese Steak House (LOVED IT!!)
Me love sushi. Me sushi monster. Sushi monster could eat sushi every day if sushi monster had monster budget. Shana, it's called the Camdi, in Dinkytown. Good, cheap food. Lunch specials are $4.75. Their rice noodle salad with mock duck rocks. I work in Dinkytown, and eat there a lot. I've been going there for 15 years, which is as long as I've lived in Minneapolis. Vietnamese is a lot like Chinese but I think they use more rice noodles than Chinese. The dishes aren't as "saucy" ... I'm sure someone with more culinary knowledge than I could give you more precise info. Have you had Pho? That's Vietnamese/Cambodian soup. It's yummy, and mostly what Vietnamese restaurants seem to be known for.
Yes, the Vietnamese are good at making rice noodles...I think. Or maybe it's the Japanese. Or MAYBE it's the Korean. It's pretty shameful that I, an Asian, can't even tell us apart.
It's definitely the Vietnamese, though Thai cooking uses flat rice noodles. Vietnamese rice noodles are a lot like angel hair pasta. Thai rice noodles are more like linguini. I know something you don't know ... I know something you don't know ... Sorry. Got giddy. Doesn't happen to me very often. I just wasn't sure if there was something else that distinguished Vietnamese cooking. Korean cooking is the one I know almost nothing about. I've had it once or twice. It seems to be very simply prepared foods with a bit of spice. Quite yummy. But yes, you're right, Asian cooking has certain similar characteristics no matter which region it's from. There are elements of sushi in Korean cooking, for example ... it can get very confusing for us poor white folks. (Talking about me, not you ... I know you're of Chinese descent.) And don't get me started on the Chinese grocery store in my neighborhood. I don't know what half those things are! I love shopping there, though.
Thanks, reignofevil! I'll have to remember that next time I'm bored out of my skull. I actually got through to my client and am working, which means I'll eventually get to go home. (Waiting on the other computer to compile something right now.) I was getting worried I'd have to call for a cot for a minute there. Just kidding. Actually, if she hadn't called by 4 I was going to leave. She called at 2. Sigh.
I don't know what many of the stuff in the Chinese grocery store is either! But at least I can tell what are candy and cookies.
