Got a problem, a weird one.

This is quite a weird problem for me, so i'll explain it the best i can. I've got all the required stuff to work The Sims 2.

I've recently installed The Sims 2 expansion packs upto Nightlife. They would totally fine, no problems whatsoever. I then installed Open For Business without any problems but as soon as it's finished, and i added the patch for it, it wouldn't read the disk, which was weird, becuase it was working before for the installation.

I uninstalled it, thinking i missed something and left it until the next day, in which it did exactly the same thing, and i left the patch out this time around. It just asks for me to make sure that it's on, or tells me to insert it, one of them anyway.

If it's any help, the first time i installed it, i just thought it was a problem with the disc so i installed Pets, but that did the same thing. I didn't put Pets on the second time around.

I'd appreciate any help whatsoever, since it's the weirdest thing i've had, and the fact i've had it working before earlier this year roughly.

    Thanks.

I'm not quite understanding your problem. Are you getting any error messages when you put in the CD?

When you click on your Desktop icon, does it start the game up? Or have you tried opening Windows Explorer and navigating to your CD drive and running sims.exe?

I'm not getting any error message. I've tried clicking on the Desktop Icon, and since i'm on Vista, i click on a window that asks me what i want to do after it's found the disk, i click on run/setup.

After both of them times, the usual white sims window with the logo and the name of the expansion pack (Open For Business in this case) and then after about 10 seconds the box/window telling me i need to insert the correct disk, which is weird since OFB has one disk and it's in the drive.

I don't know the correct answer, but I can give you some tips. Hopefully one of them will fix your problem:

    ===========================================================
    Tip 1

If the last expansion pack is OFB you have to have compatibility mode set to Windows98/Windows 2000 as it will crash with compatability mode off and XP compatability insists that there is no disc. To change Compatability Mode,
Right-click the program icon on your desktop or the shortcut on the Start menu for the program you want to run, and then click Properties. Click the Compatibility tab, and change the compatibility settings for your program.

    Tip 2
Any chance you installed them out of order? The correct order is below.

    "The Sims 2"
    "The Sims 2 University"
    "The Sims 2 Nightlife"
"The Sims 2 Holiday Party Pack" (A Stuff Pack)
"The Sims 2 Open for Business"
"The Sims 2 Family Fun" (A Stuff Pack)
"The Sims 2 Glamour Life" (A Stuff Pack)
    "The Sims 2 Pets"
"The Sims 2 Happy Holiday" (A Stuff Pack)
    "The Sims 2 Seasons"
"The Sims 2 Celebration" (A Stuff Pack)
    "The Sims 2 H&M" (A Stuff Pack)
    "The Sims 2 Bon Voyage"

    Tip 3
Do you have any programs that are running that clones CD's? Programs like Daemon tools can cause this error to appear.

    Tip 4
I'm not accusing you of anything, but if you are running any game or expansion that was downloaded from the net, you're going to have this problem, so I'm putting in this tip to go buy the game.

    Tip 5
If all of your copies are legimate and none of these tips work, then google yourself a no-cd patch. That should work in the meantime. Please note that when you install an expansion pack over the patched exe file, it will booger things up, so you'll have to reinstall the games again if you do go this route.

    Tip 6
Uninstall all of your games and do a fresh reinstallation, running each game after each installation to make sure they are working flaw-less-ly.

Hang on, i think we've hit something here, but i don't completely understand.

First time i installed it i set the compatibility to XP, and the second time i left it completely, so Vista.

Are you saying that i should change OFB to Windows 98/2000? (I'm just making sure.)

EDIT: BTW, they are real copiesand i don't run any software that copies CD's. I've also so far installed them correctly. ;)

Are you on XP or Vista

I'd say give each compatibility option a try, starting with the 98/2000 choice.

I changed the compatibility to 98/ME and it works now, thanks.

    I'm also on Vista.
