    How about them Servos

After marathon game playing this weekend my sim finally earned a gold robot badge and built his first servo. Its head is a movie camera? And I read they could wear clothes but although this one goes through the motions it ends up looking exactly as it did before. Darn. Does building more of them 'improve' their appearance or give you more options with them? I suppose this is a "How Do I" thread but since we've been discussing OFB here a lot I thought this forum was OK. If not, I'll behave better next time.

The thing is pretty funny to watch, though. Apparently it also has an urge to do chores, besides wanting to be a scientist or a doctor. :p

I tried to get on EA.com to read about robots but the BBS must have 10 million kids reading and posting because I could not get to it. :(

    Anyone else playing with servos?

Meanwhile, I'm at the office and have to get back to work. Bye, and thanks.

I read that you can woohoo with them. I'm looking forward to making a mad scientist who lives with his robot. :D

    Or her robot.

I think I have just the Gen 5 kid for the job. Hope that doesn't give too much away ...

I haven't made a servo yet, I'm jealous. I've got a munchie bot and I'm not really sure how to interact with it, but Chinese food magically appeared on the counter so I figured Gromit brought it. (I name my robots.)

I haven't gotten very far with OFB because I'm so busy getting Gen 4 through college. Looking forward to having them all established and attempting to get a business to level 10.

Does anyone know the highest level? Is it 10?

I just got my first servo too! I think they look better curled up before you initialize them. They look cool to me like that. I haven't tried to dress him yet but I read that they can only dress in formal wear. They have a few test mods over at MTS2 were you could give them human(?)/sim skin and have them dress in other clothing. JM has a mod to stop them from doing chores so much. It seems like if they stand idle for about 5seconds, they queue up to do chores. It gets pretty annoying.
Building more doesn't give you more options. They will all basically look the same, and be either male or female.

I'm trying to figure out how to have them work in a family comm lot business. When I take my other sims to the lot I want servo(s) to be working but only the lot owner/creator is there. I guess I have to kick them out and hire them, but I don't want my sim to have to pay a salary to something he created. I thought about leaving them on the comm. lot (like they live there) but that may cause problems.

    Funny SBW.
One of my sims initialized his first servo and since the servo gets the same personality/turn-offs/ons as the owner he is a shy knowledge servo (wants to be a mad scientist or doctor) who is attracted to his owner's wife. I had them all sit on the couch and the servo was staring at her. LOL.
Funny thing is I thought he would have a high relationship score with the owner (since he talked to him right after initializing him) but he actually has higher scores with the wife and their twin boys. I am going to have him take over the robot business (A.I.R. Industries) but should he also take over the family?...hmmm?

Yes the highest level is 10. I haven't gotten there yet though. My highest level is a 5 so far. It is really hard for your sims to have a business (especially home bus.) and a life. It you don't use cheats it will take a very long time getting them to have a level 10 business and the money to open up other businesses. I don't like using cheats. so the only one I use for this is aging off. It gives them time to get a good business going and make some money before they die. LOL.
I have one family where they have started out with just a small comm. lot bakery. I want them to reach level 10 with that and then open a chain of bakeries and then a restaurant. However, at the rate it is going they will never reach this and enjoy the fruits of their labor without playing with aging off. Not to mention having a few kids to carry on the business.

I'm beginning to think it's a generational thing, myself. The first gen probably won't be very successful but each one starts with a slight advantage over the last. Plus, it gives me a reason for kids to move back home after college, which keeps the elders interesting as well. No more fading off into the sunset, and a reduction in the sheer number of households. Hey, that just gave me an idea ...

It's kind of like RL, with say, a Mom and Pop bakery that ambitious offspring parlay into a business empire.

It's all good. I'm not too worried about it. I am interested in seeing how far I can get, of course, but if it takes a few generations, hey, it's keeping my interest.

And that's what a good game is supposed to do.

Ah well. Haven't played too much at all with mine yet so I don't know how it feels about anything. I only tried to see if he'd put on clothes and 'change appearance.' The latter isn't an option. I was just trying to decide if it was worth it to build more, since they cost so much and take up so much time to build. I've had to resort to the green juice for my sims because I didn't want them to grow old and die before they'd at least earned a gold badge in robot building. I did discover that the robot himself has a gold badge in robot building so maybe I'll put him to work doing that.

I think it's true. It'll be the second and third generations that might have the opportunity for empire building. The home business is exhausting and slow to get going.

Just a thought, since I only have a home business so far, but can you telephone anyone from your business lot and hire them by phone? If so, could you hire the robot in your family that way?

Yes, but then you can't control them. They're just like any employee, or at least I assume so. I've never played a robot so can't say for sure, but that's what happened when I hired a player sim.

Vampires have a definite advantage in empire building, but of course they can only do so at night. Raj is getting to be quite a good robot builder, and of course, no green stuff needed.

Edited to add: I just wanted to add that training up teens ahead of time (and children, with the lemonade stand?) is a good way to get a jump on some of those skills. I noticed that college students can buy real estate, now.

So in theory they can start their businesses then. Haven't tried it yet.

Good thoughts about playing the business as a generational thing, instead of getting the 1st gen. to build the empire. Didn't think of that.
Ive already figured out that it is easier to have at least one child move back home. Saves lot hoping, remembering who lives where and keeping the ages in sync. In one family the two elders have potty trained and taught the little ones to talk while mom and dad are working. Who needs nannies when you have grandparents and now servos.

I don't think you can hire a sim from your own household to work in the buss. I will try though. I dont mind not being able to control them as they dont have many needs. (there is always make selectable though)

Your robot has a gold badge automatically? Mine is only able to build toy robots hence no badge.

Oh. I missed the part about "from your own household." Maybe Servo is lot bound? I don't know ...

Yeah, I think my sims are going to abandon the American model and go for the European one. Having elders to watch the kiddies would be a definite advantage ...

Anyone who is in the business owner's household is playable on the community lot and is seen by the game as co-owner as far as stock inventory (the backpack) and employee social interactions (assignments, pay hikes, hire/fire, etc.) Once one of your employees for that business gains a certain number of skill badges you can even promote him/her to manager which makes them a playable character when they are on your lot! This has the added advantage of making that lot a "call in" business, meaning that you can generate income from that community lot by calling it each day without leaving your residence lot.

For the entrepreneurial college sim, real estate is a great way to bank all that scholorship money that just gets wasted when they graduate and move to the bin. Create an undeveloped community lot for your collage sim to buy cheap. Every time your student gets a few simoleons to rub together (scholorships, tip money, etc) have them visit their lot and buy statues. After graduation and getting their first bachelor(et) pad with their 20k seed fund, they can sell the community lot and contents back to the real estate office for a tidy profit.

Amazing, Werebear. I'm glad you got this EP. Thanks for the suggestions. :) Actually, I should thank everyone for their suggestions. I shouldn't even bother with the EA.com site anymore. Everything I need to know is all here. :D

Just noticed SBW's new avatar. Neat one!

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go...

Wow Werebear, good suggestion. That should go in SBW's tip thread. I always hated that my college sims living in the dorms would have 35k and up but when they moved out it would be gone. Stupid me to think they would actually take it with them.

My servo is now a cyborg. I had him change into "everyday" but that did nothing; then I had him change into "formal" and he changed into a tattered jacket with tails but is face is now half-human half-servo. It's like his human skin is showing underneath the metal mask. He still has the servo eye in front but you can see his human lips, hair, cheeks, etc. (I will try to post a pic later).
I tried this with another servo (who is a female) but it didn't work. I'm thinking maybe it's because I had him workout, so he became fit, then when I had him put on his clothes, they didn't fit anymore and he "busted" out of his servo cover-up. Who knows. ???

I buy statues, too, but I just put 'em in inventory. If I have several college students on the same lot I buy them all the same thing and stick it in inventory. Sometimes it's something to sell, sometimes it's a useful item like a workout machine.

If you put it in inventory the value does not depreciate, as far as I can tell.

Also, I keep track of prezzies. If a sim gets something good it goes in her inventory. Max gave Avery one of those spinning wheel workout machines. That'll buy a lot of groceries!

And, thanks, glad you like the new avatar. I like to change them once in a while, though I've noticed they're always London.

Believe it or not, that's not on purpose. I just like her, I guess ...

When I have a comm business I send one sim to run it and once he gets there I call in other family members. Once they are on the business lot you can control them but this way you don't have to bring the whole family and then have to hire a nanny. ANYWAY, I was wondering if that's how you would handle Servo. Can you call him like any other sim? I guess if you can't then he could stay home and keep any kids that were not able to come along, thus avoiding the nanny. Actually I'm wondering now if you can call in all the family members and leave the baby/toddler at home alone or would the last family member refuse to come because they have to stay home with the kids? Just a thought.

That's a good idea Ruthie about calling in once they get to the lot. I don't think it matters if the baby is technically home alone, since I've invited single parents over to another lot and didn't get any messages about leaving the child behind.
What I was looking for was a way to have household members working at the comm lot buss. while I'm not playing that particular household. It seems only the lot owner is running the buss. autonomously when you send another sim there, but I want to be able to see other household members working there as well. I guess this can't be done unless you hire them and you can't hire household members.

I never really figured out what the :p means. It looks like it means 'oh, pay no attention to silly me.' But sometimes it just seems to mean hehehe. As in now: :p

Sorry I missed the sarcasm. I'm kind of slow that way. Ask my husband.
