Making a fantasy Sims 2 neighbourhood

I'm considering making a neighbourhood for The Sims 2, maiking it in fantasy village style. You know. A temple, a tavern, a store, and some farms. All houses made of wood or stone. I do realize that the game have some tilt towards modern style, but I think a lot could be done. So, a few questions:

    * Dirt road instead of asphalt. Can it be done? In Sim City 4, for example? Anyone here got any experience with that?

    * Downloadable houses, skins, et cetera, that would fit this concept? Anyone seen or made any? (Most of my citizens would be human, but I'm considering making some elves as well.)

    *Any general hints or ideas?

    Thanks in advance,
    Xenu

(And yes, I do intend to use this Sims 2 neighbourhood in a pen and paper roleplaying adventure. If that offends you, I pity you. This thread is still about The Sims 2 and nothing else. How to make a certain neighbourhood in this game. There's no grond for using "off topic" as a excuse to censor it.)

Hey, I think this is a great idea. I'm currently skinning, what kinds of skins are you going to be making/needing?

Why would anyone want to "censor" you. The post move was done to *help* you (which should have been your first assumption since you were doing nothing wrong.) I've already apologized. Now I think it's your turn.

Only specific things can transfer from SC4 to TS2. Only regular roads (not even streets) transfer, for instance, so it wouldn't matter if you could have a dirt road, it wouldn't end up in TS2. (Someday, hopefully, we'll be able to change that with the neighborhood tools.)

I've seen several elves on various websites. And you can make them yourself if you have the right colored skin. The ear part is the easiest. Go to the full face part of Body Shop and it's the second to the last head. And if you then go to ear modifier you can change the size of the pointed ear. (Just be careful to change things with modifiers or parts of the face, as if you use the full face part, the ears go away.)

Frankly, I haven't seen a single skin (so far) that looks medieval. Of course, some are fantasy, but no particular ones stick in my mind. Most of the fantasy ones seem to be more modern fantasy than D&D fantasy.

I'm sorry for being paranoid enough to mention the issue in this thread. Did it in case you would move or delete this thread too, and I see now that this was a overreaction on my side. I should have kept it to private messages and to the first thread, where I did start by staing that I assume that the whole issue was just a misstake. In any case, that metatopic is a mootpoint now. Over to talking about Sims 2 :)

    Ack. :(
That kinda destroys the concept for now. Asphalt roads with cars kinda disrupts the atmosphere. Thanks for the info, hope EA will upgrade the game soon.

Aye, ears are easy to make big enough, even in the game itself. And noses. Made myself a little goblin! :D
How do I make new skincolors in the body shop?

You'll need a graphics program like Paint Shop Pro, Adobe Photoshop, or anything a little more sophisticated, really. Making new skin colours is the easier part of making skins, I think:

    1. Open BodyShop
    2. Create Parts >> Start New Project >> Create Genetics >> Skin Tone
    3. Choose an already existing skin tone, either male or female
    4. click on the little folder with the arrow on it ( Export selected textures )
    5. Name your project: 'blahblahwhateverelfskintone'
    6. Make note of where your BS saves the textures to; in my case, it's : C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Eigene Dateien\EA Games\The Sims2\Projects\elfskintone\, and DON'T close the BodyShop

    7. Go to that folder in your documents and open it. You'll find a whole bunch of .bmp files ( Bitmaps ) in it. Open your graphics program and open *all* of those files ( safest bet is to just select all )

    8. Depending on what kind of graphics program you have, you can now edit either all files individually, or as a batch. For a lighter skintone, for example, I'd choose 'lighten' in PSP8. Or 'recolour', which is how you can give Sims green, blue, red, violet, whatever colour skin.

    9. Edit the .bmps as you wish, then save them. Now go back to BS and click the 'refresh' button. It's the little swirly arrow next to the "Enter Tooltip here" field. That way, you can preview how the changed colour would look like.

    10. Once you're happy with how the skin colour looks, enter a tooltip, for example 'Elfskin'. Then select 'import into game', the button that looks like a folder with an arrow pointing into it. That's it.

Oops dangerousgem...this was a thread posted back in 2004! My guess is that they aren't around anymore or already have everything they need. Please be careful and watch the dates. We try not to resurrect dead threads around here.

Don't worry about it since it's your first post. Oh, and if you think that's a good download site you should post it in this thread as well! It's our favorite download sites thread and while it was started a long time ago we're constantly adding more sites to it.
