kymera, if you go to the edit neighborhood screen there is an option to switch active families. From there you can choose to play the husband/wife...
Odd question that may or may not help... Are you in live mode when you are trying this? I have found that if you are in buy or build mode it does...
Click on your Sim or the dresser to choose and outfit. Or if you want to plan something new entirely, click on the dresser...plan outfit...that...
