Anyone want to play Round Robin? (Read and see)

Hello! I was at the sims2 website and reading stories and I found this nifty game some people were doing, they call it round robin, I don't want to say their idea is mine because it isn't but I'd love to play!

How you play is one person makes two founding sims or so, then they play their kids until they become adults. But then they send the house and sims to the next player, and then that person plays the second generation and the third until they are adults, and then sends it on.

And you write out the story in the album every time you play and post it somewhere (probably on the sims website)

I have sims 2 and sims university. If anyone is interested in playing this game with me PLEASE reply here! I REALLY WANT TO PLAY!

BUT! I don't know how to put the houses in my game when i download them, and, i don't know how I would get the sims or houses out of my game to send to someone else. Could someone tell me how to do that if you want to play?

Hey Raspberry, that's a neat idea.

Packaging a family is pretty easy. When you click a house to play it (in the neighborhood screen) a new panel pops up describing the family and you have to click the play button to carry on. Look close next time you play ... On the left side of the panel is a * symbol. Click that and you can package the lot (house family and all) to the Sims 2 exchange. Once it is safely uploaded all you have to do is post the link to your MySimPage

The only reservation I have is that sims who are moved from 'hood to 'hood get crazy screwed-up memories and relationships. Any friends they make in your computer's neighborhood will be forever unavaliable to them once they move to another computer. Could be a serious problem unless the sims were all knowledge or wealth sims ... any other sort would spend most of their time drooling and waiting for the shrink to appear. Apart from that I'm up for it! ;)

Oh my gosh awesome ^___^. And I kind of figured that they would do that. But the way you play it, the second generation kids are already married and moved in the house, or should be.
Should you and me do it? Or should we find one more person? I think up to 4 would be interesting for a first time doing this.

Well we can drum up support while we get started. You get going and post me a link to download the family and carry on the next generation. I'd be quite happy to have a go at playing a family that someone else has started ...

I'd say that the rule would have to be no money cheats and no hacked objects to max out skills, moods, needs or wants and all homework to be done the hard way. Pescado hacks are compulsory tho' cos I'm not taking mine out for anyone. :p

Uh, I just made a new family and a house and everything and it took me hours! I wouldn't be able to stand not having at LEAST the money cheat >.< It's the only cheat I use. What hacks are you talking about?
Besides I think I would like to take on the third/fourth generation.
I really don't want to make a new house expecially without cheating with money xD! He'll have to find a volunteer to do all the first hard work >.>

I used Akia and Gabriel, the two sims I have on here that I'm giving away, in the house! LOL I'll upload it to my account on the sims website and give you the link??? You probably won't want to use that house but I intended to give it to people anyway. It's awesome and it took me a long time. To be truthful I don't even have the outside decorations done yet! So it will probably be a few days from now until I send you the link for that.

Btw my Sims2 name is the same as is

This is the most terrible idea I have heard in awhile.

It's worse than that. Firstly, every time you do this, you're going to get a massive bloat-effect on your neighborhood, as everyone-and-their-dog gets dragged along for the ride. Remember how I mentioned it was bad to package families? This is why.

Secondly, when you package a family, their aspirational status is instantly annihilated. If they were in platinum before, they won't be when you get them! See: That shrink problem. :)

All in all, this is a really dumb idea, and the people who came up with it should punished.

The hacks I was talking about are Pescado's our resident curmudgeon and all round super genius. You'll find his fab game improvement here: http://www.variousimmers.net/vsimforum/forumdisplay.php?f=1

The money cheat has only use, IMHO. And that is to kaching the odd $1,000 to repair damage caused by unexpected disaster. (eg I hate the way that the insurance doesn't provide "new for old" cover). Motherlode is for players who want to create luxury houses for fun, or for players who are inot movie making story telling more than game play. I would hate to take over a game that had been built on a giant money fraud  ... the game would unplayable because the sims present would have no "feel" ... though I kinda worry if they would transfer with even their jobs at the right level ....

Pescado's objections are valid and are the same as mine. However I would recommended that all play should take place in a "virgin" copy of Pleasantville. (This is easily obtained by a player first dragging their My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/ folder to the desktop. The next time the game is started will take a little longer than normal because it will be creating a brand new set of default hoods in a new My Docs folder ... once the player has finished their portion of the challenge the new saved games folder can be binned and the original restored. (I've done this myself on more than one occasion! :p)

Okay, I'm not sure I understand this game. (and I'm always game for trying new things on TS2! LOL) So, someone makes a family and then packages the file. Then they pass it to someone, who plays it for, what length of time? A sim week? A Sim Generation? A sim lifetime? Then they package the family and send them to the next person? Who would we know who to e-mail it to?

Here is what I propose. I propose we appoint a Round Robin Coordinator. This person will be in charge of maintaining a list of interested individuals. They can be the one to either create the family or just be the person who sends it out and maintains who has it, who gets it next, ect.

Good point, Kristal. I volunteer to be coordinator (As a moderator I can arrange a bit of the forum just for the folks who are participating to keep in touch with each other if we decide to go ahead with the idea!)

For now we should debate the hows and what-ifs of the project. The idea being to thrash out a workable set of rules and a simple set of instructions for taking part.

    Here is my suggestion.
    1. All play to be on smallest lot 2X3
    2. All play to in a brand new virgin Pleasantville neighborhood with only townies and the other Maxis made sims present before the play-family is moved in. No other sims to be added to hood afterward.
    3. No hacked objects to be used (eg teleport objects, merola's painting etc.)
    4. No motherlode/kaching under any circumstances.
    5. Flying Fish Systems game hacks allowed as is custom content.
    6. Play works this way:
      1. Each player who wants to join must create a new Pleasantville by the process to be described elsewhere
      2. Must post their intention to join the round robin in the Round Robin forum (to be set up when we need it) and also to post their EA Games Sims 2 username so that we can visit their SimPage downloads.
      3. Each participating player creates a new family consisting of one adult male and one adult female. They must use only Maxis made skins (NOT the pornographically realistic ones that some folks find amusing to share) This will be checked carefully by the moid staff here and any offender would be permanently banned (this IS a teen site after all!)
      4. Each player plays their new family. They are only allowed to have 2 children. As soon they have a child graduate from university and return home their "turn" ends and they must package the family to their SimPage and post the link to it. They may then download a different family and install that into a fresh made virgin copy of Pleasantvill. They then play that family until they have a graduate's child graduate ... if they get fed of waiting for the old folks to die off they can move 'em out and play them separately in another lot of keep them around to fill the house up with ghosts ... whatever
    Any ideas anyone else?

    Kristalrose Wakey-Wakey!

I second the nomination of Mirelly as Round Robin Coordinator. And since I have never even opened Plesentview, I think it is still pure, right? So, no skins other than Maxis. Does this go for hair, eyes, and clothing, also? And I get to create the family, play it for a length of time, then package it and upload it to my sims page. Upon that time I will download someone else's family and start playing with them. Do I have a good grasp on the game? Rasberry, is this what you had in mind?

Sure this works fine for me ^_^ This is on a much bigger scale than what I intended but the this also gives us more variety! Since we'll be able to pick the family we want to play the next generation too.

Also I've never played Pleasantveiw, so would it be new for me as well? I'm a Veronaville junky <.<

    So when do we start this exactly also? ^_^;

Well, 1st off we need to see how many people are interested in playing then Mirelly making the forum.

Oh, I'm excited!!! I'm ready to open up Body Shop and make some Sims. Do we want beautiful sims or something more interesting?

Don't know about you! But if we're each starting our own families I have my idea already planned out!

Their last name is going to be Raspberry! And the founding woman is going to be Ca8 ^_^ and it's going to look SOMETHING like me but not too much. Then I'm going to use Gabriel (the sim I have on a different thread on this board) as the guy =D
The girl is going to have the lightest skin tone, green eyes, and black hair. And you know what Gabriel looks like. LOL

    Yay excitedness!

Sounds cool, but if I get invo, lved you might have to be patient with me as I play at a snail's pace . . . Let me know if you still think it would be worth my whiel to participate. By the way, I quick breed all my created Sims randomly through 8-10 generations in Sim creator with completely randomized personality points and such before playing them, so anything I inject could be ugly.

Some questions: how do we avoid the problems of picking up all the extra Sims from the University? Is it going to be the same rules as with sanitized PLeasantville? Plus, would it be permissable for us to create young adult mates for our sim kids to hook up with at the university level just for added genetic fun? After all, if all we do is breed 'em with townies, they may start to look pretty boring (and ugly) after a generation or three.

Good points! :) Slow players wouldn't be a problem IMO. It is one reason why I suggested that everyone who wants to play should start their own family. We'd need to think about ways to share out the families. Like only one player may use a family in the round robin challenge ... otherwise some families would be overlooked entirely cos they don't look "right". If everyone starts a family then we won't have loads of folks hanging around with nothing to do and wondering when their turn will come.

As for the Uni side of it ... I expected that we would either have to require it or else not use it at all. I don't like the second option. So Uni should be compulsory. :) Maybe we should stipulate that one child goes to college and the other leaves home (to go to uni) and is then forgotten about. I like the idea of using create a sim at uni to make a mate for the freshman. Twould solve a lot of problems as the next player to take over would have to run that couple's new life once they got back to old homestead ... :p

(Side note I like your idea of breeding thru a few generations with CAS ... I've done it myself but only thru a generation or two. ;) )

Im interested in playing, it sounds like it could be fun, something new to do at the very least. Question: do we package house and family or just the family? The whole thing will take most ppl a long time to down and upload, specially if you only have dial-up. Any decision on what custom content is allowed?

An idea, the non used child/teenager sim could be available for download to add genetic material to other ppls game that are not playing that sims family. That could be a bit messy though for who ever decides which family goes where (or to whome I should say).

Another question, do we package the parents aswell as their children/child (I actually think one child would be better than two) or just the child?

    Cheers.

The worst part is the risk of getting your hard drive bloated with files of people your Sim remembers from his previous life in another place. Here it would be his sibling that he wouldn't have any contact with anymore. If we can insure that everyone plays with the same content and the same NPCs then hopefully the excess baggage can be kept at a minimum or at least solutions to any excess baggage problems can be found before the problems are created.
