Beijing To Block Unhealthy Internet Content Morning Edition, June 12, 2009 · The Chinese government has demand that a new Internet filter be included with all personal computers sold in the country. The filter is designed to protect people from pornography, but many believe it would allow authorities to censor the net even more thoroughly than they currently do. Have a listen. It's just hilarious. It's not doing what it's doing... and it's not blocking things it should be blocking...and blocking...well, have a listen and you'll find out :rotfl: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=105285844
How do they expect client sided blocking to work? At least our government wanted to block sites at the ISP level.
Wait a minute... does this sound like filtering internet sites similar to what's going on in the UK, many countries in the Middle East, and in North Korea? I think the Chinese government is afraid of "radical" movements that will eventually make changes to the country's perspective, and it can actually make them worried of the future of their own government.
What do you call it then? Banning websites that deliberately show opposition to the government? No wonder China is still very far from having a democracy... :(
China will never have a democracy so long as their military is strong! Any kind of website showing anything they don't approve of or gives the wrong image to the people letting them know if they were anywhere else and had free rights to do whatever they wanted they will block. Hell they wanted to block Garfield cartoons over there! :ducks:
Oh dear... I think the Chinese Government is going backwards, so to speak... much like Iran right now! They can NOT block or hinder information from the internet or traditional media because it does not make sense to hibernate themselves from what's really going on beyond their own borders! This sounds like N Korea in some respects, btw.
So long as the government thinks it's in control of everything then it will do whatever it wants however it wants.
