Fantasy Round Robin FaeLuna and I are always saying we're going to do a round robin story, but we never do. I think it's because it would really be more fun if a lot of people were in on it. If you've never done one before, here's how it works: Read the story so far and just pick up wherever it leaves off and write the next part. A few sentences, a few paragraphs... whatever. This one will be a fantasy story. A small forest in the kingdom of Kellise was the home of a wolf maiden named Rosabella. In her human form, she had the body of a sixteen year old girl with luscious black eyes with thick long black lashes, and thick black hair that tumbled to her waist in the silkiest waves. In the form of a wolf, she was dark and silent as midnight,and sleek as silk. In either form, she was known to be fair and generous. All the creatures of the forest thought of her as Luna Rosa, the rose that blooms most beautifully durng the full moon. Her best friend was a selkie named Ariana who lived near a beach not far from the forest. Ariana's family of merfolk had been in the kingdom of Kellise for centuries and no one there would kill a seal for fear that it was actually a selkie.
Things were quiet in that little part of the world, until some new travlers came into the forest. They were loud, and scared off all the game animals, they were rude and the women of the villiage didn't like them, and worst of all, they laughed at the stories of the Selkies! They just wouldn't believe that there were mer-folk who slipped in and out of seal to human forms, and they wanted to HUNT the seals! This was terrible!
Rosabella feared for her friend and made the journey to the beach to talk to her. "Ariana, you must come with me! We have to hide you and your family in my hut until these men have left. I've built a secret place for all of you to hide your seal pelts so no one can steal them and trap you in your human form." "My family has been here for centuries," Ariana replied. "But your hut is not far from our beach and leaving for a while would be better than being hunted." "Think of it as a vacation. Let's go tell your family about our plan."
So off they went to tell Ariana's family about their plan, to hide their seal pelts, and stay in human form till these bad men left. But Ariana's family didn't like the idea of staying in human form for so long. "What if the men never leave? Should we leave our coves and beaches? Should we stay dry forever?" Ariana's grandmother was most resistant, but her parents were willing to try, "for a time."
Finally Ariana's grandmother gave in and said she would follow. "But no more than 7 days" she said. "Or our pelts will be to dry and uncomfortable." The whole family packed together the most important necessities they would need. It was late evening when they finally was on their way with Rosabella leading the way. The start glindered and the moon was bright enough to light up their way somewhat. "Good", said Rosabella. "Now we don't need to use lights and we will be almost invisible in the shadows."
So they crept along the paths, along the seashores and through the forest, till they had nearly made it safely to Rosabella's house. The crickets sang in the woods, and the cheerful chirruping lifted their spirits. Until, suddenly, it stopped.
Rosabella lifted her nose to the wind. Even in human form her senses were heightened by the wolf part of her. "It's not the men," she whispered. "It's Old Witch. She's mixing her potions." Everyone breathed a small sigh of relief. Old Witch wasn't dangerous. She was an ancient woman who lived her her own hut in the forest and had been known to help creatures there and people in town when they needed it. But whatever she was doing on this moonless night must be of grave importance for the wildest of creatures to give her the respect of total slence.
Rosabella told her followers to be extra careful and silent from now on. She had a very uneasy feeling about the last part of the road. for a moment she thought about an alternative route, but it would be very hard on the old ones, so she decided to go on.
