I just dont understand why beautiful parents, can have a child looking like that? Ive used both the same sims for another family, and they have a beautiful daughter.

So why is it so different now?

I agree with Suitemichelle. I too am guilty of making everyone fairly homogenously pretty ... I kind of like it that not all of my kids are turning out as "perfect" as their parents. Makes the game seem more realistic ...

I have two very cute parents who have no-nose children. The kids turn sideways, their noses disappear! They look OK from the front, though.

Thats true, but Ive not encountered having sim kids/teens whom will grow up without a nose, or weird things like that, so I guess I should be thankful to have Riana and Minya lol

The hairstyle a toddler receives is always the same, very nonrandom: Boys always get the afro, girls always get the mop. The only way to get a different one is to change it with either the hacked toddler mirror, or at a regular mirror after childhood.

Children don't really manifest very clear features. Sometimes their faces will look rather distorted, even though when they become teens or adults, they'll fill out just fine. There's really no point in getting concerned about toddler or child features, they tend to have only a loose relationship to how they'll look once they're more "mature". Usually you get a better idea by teen of how they're going to turn out.

Also, it's worth noting that while both parents may "look" fine, the resulting children will be a mix-and-match of their facial features, with slight gender-based "warpage": If you look at a CAS sim as you flip its gender back and forth, the same facial features are expressed differently on an male sim than they are on a female sim. Features which look "good" on a male can look so-so or awful on a female, and vice-versa. Combined with the mix-and-match effect, and if you have sims with very different faces, you can get some very funny-looking kids. This is how you get brown-baggers in real life, too.

I agree with everything that Pescado says. When I first got to play with body shop I was intrigued by the sometimes bizarre-seeming choices that Maxis had made in the way that the anatamy sliders worked. It all seemed far too complicated, whereas biology is much simpler (most things being reduced to very simple algorithms eg http://www.news-medical.net/?id=2429 ) As far as human facial diversity goes I would have said that all variations could be accounted for with very few sliders ... say no more than a couple of dozen. I suspect that the ability of modern software to do as much with so limited a range of options is still way beyond the scope of mere mortal programmers. I suppose I am congratulating Maxis for the successful way they managed to make their genetics work as well as it does. It looks much too complicated and (because of that) one would expect it to be prone to regular major errors -- such as monstrously hideous offspring :p -- the fact that it doesn't (current complaints notwithstanding ;) ) is a cause for celebration, I think.

Well, so far the no-nose family has just one kid in college, and her nose is still missing. :) But like I said, she's perfectly nice from the front. Kind of looks like Sporty Spice. Skinny but cute, until she turns sideways ...

On the other hand, I have a family that has nothing but gorgeous children and grandchildren ... even the adopted ones. Plus, the oldest daughter's family, of which several are adopted, is following a pattern: boy, girl, girl. They're trying to get pregnant with kid #9 and I'm fairly certain she's going to be a girl. A cute girl.

Guess it's just the luck of the draw, but I think it varies by family.

Hence the no-noses vs. the pretties. :D

(I have another household that has nothing but twins. Doesn't matter who has them. If they get pregnant and they're living in that house, they have twins.)

I have a beautiful girl sim who has a crush with my alien boy, Orion. I was wondering what the offspring would look like? Anyone have any pictures of the 1/2 alien offspring. (Well, okay, I guess they are only 1/4 alien, since their parents were an alien "polination technician" and an adult male). Are they all green or have the weird eyes? I can't wait to breed him and see what kind of strange babies I have in my neighborhood. :p

In one family, the mother looks really cute and has a button nose, green eyes, blonde hair, and a thin face. She has a son with Remington the Maid, and he looks like a variation of his mom. Um...he's not that cute, for the longest time he looked like an ugly girl.

Another family, the mom has red eyes (go figure) and married an NPC named Goopy, who has big lips and a hooked nose. They have twins, a boy and a girl. The boy has his mother's features (thin nose, thin face, thin lips) and the girl had features of both her mom and dad (the thin lips, but the hooked nose). Both took on their mother's red eyes but their dad's black hair. Funny how things work.

Funny thing happened to one of my alien Sims while I was playing today. My teenaged alien boy, Boba Fett Curious, has a lifetime want of being a Master Thief. I got him a job in the Life of Crime career, and every time he came home from work...his face was gone. Invisible.
On a whim, I took him to a mirror and attempted to change his appearance. In place of his alien face (flat nose, barely a chin, little black eyes, the works), there was a human face, with brown eyes and light skin. I changed his hair...and you know what? The facial features of the human face merged in with his green skin and black eyes, and he looks really cute. 10x better than what he looked like before. :D Unfortunately every time he goes to work, his face disappears again, and I have to send him to the mirror to get a new 'do. I have him wearing a top hat for laughs, knowing that I'm going to be changing his hair the next day. I'm hoping that glitch fixes itself, I really like Boba Fett's new look. :D
