Favorite Bogart movie: African Queen devoured anything written by the 3 bronte sisters (Emily, Charlotte & Anne) when I was in my teens... lead to an addiction to Mary Stewart (The Legend of the Seventh Virgin [1st], The Ivy Tree [favorite], etc) and Victoria Holt. none of this helps get the housework done. helpful hint: if you get ballpoint ink on your clothes, blot it immediately with a damp sponge then air dry. Spray with hair spray and blot it with cloth and cloth or papertowel on the other side. if that doesn't work try rubbing alchohal, then maybe a prepared stain remover like Oops. Of course if the pen breaks apart in the dryer, forget trying and go shopping for some new clothes. Which leads to the number one most important thing to do when washing clothes: check all pockets!!!
LOL..no. In fact, I still have scorch marks on the chat room walls from that fire you started that raged out of control that night in the chat room.
LOVED Mary Stewart and Victoria Holt! I think I read everything the Library had of theirs when I was in Junior and Senior High School! Then I started checking out the other writers in that section - especially those with similar cover art - which lead me to some of my other gothic-romance-suspense faves...Like Barbara Michaels and Elizabeth Peters...Now there's a trip down memory lane...
Ooh! Elizabeth Peters. I adore Amelia Peabody and have the biggest crush on Ramses ... the adult version of course, LOL. (I think the "Mummy" movies stole heavily from her, especially the second one ... although they were way cornier.) Y'all are mentioning a lot of my favorite writers! I think we were all separated at birth. And LOL, 123. I hate the name Fitzwilliam but I try not to hold it against him. I even had a "Will Darcy" in my first neighborhood, along with all five Bennet sisters, each of whom I gave a different aspiration (Jane: Family, Lizzy: Romance, Mary: Knowledge, Lydia: Fortune, Kitty: Popularity).
a little off topic even for off topic: was any one aware the Louisa May Alcott really wanted to be known for her mystery writing? And Charlie Dickens thought The Christmas Carol was pretty sappy?
Which is probably how we all ended up here! We all love a good story and The Sims allows us to act our stories out, while this forum lets us tell our stories, as well as read about everyone elses! I LOVE that idea! You certainly got the aspirations right! How did all of those different personalities get on in one household? (I might have to try that one out for myself!)
Not that well, as I recall. I think if I did it again I'd start them as children, with the two youngest as toddlers ... I like to develop their personalities. I got bored with them, though because I had too many families. This was my original neighborhood. Maybe someday I'll do a literary neigbhorhood, just for kicks. Wonder what Stephanie Plum would think of Mr. Darcy, LOL.
