I think that school dissection was mostly barbaric, because it taught very little to a very small percentage of those who did it. Some practical anatomy can be done by slicing up butchers' offal (hearts, kidneys, eyes etc). The most valuable dissection I did at school was the cranial nerve dissection on a dogfish (small member of the shark family and a very tasty baby popular in London fish and chip emporia where it is sold under the charming pseudonym rock salmon.
LOL. If you liked 'moggy' you'll be totally freaked out by a moggy minor, which was the first car I ever owned ... ooh maybe we should start a cars thread :p

Someone told me that the type of frogs every U.S. high school student had to dissect were getting rare. I don't remember my kids having to do this now that I think about it. It probably was a waste of time and perfectly good frogs. About all I can remember vividly is the smell of formaldehyde.

Mirelly, why would I freak out over your moggy car? LOL! I'm your age. My first car had more personality than beauty, too. This is the closest I can find on the internet. http://cc.oulu.fi/~thu/LC/Photos/International/
Mine had a hole in the floor, the windshield wipers worked independently, it leaked when it rained and the gears weren't synchronized. I had to come to a complete stop to downshift into 1st. I think it would get up to 45mph floored going downhill. :D I sold it 6 years ago. It was still a decent offroad vehicle.

no pets at the moment but we had a part simese cat and mixed terrier type dog that went for "walks" so many times it's amazing that we still had her when it was time for the last goodbye. Zipper taught herself to turn on her hind legs, jump really high to take a ball out of our hand, beg nicely and when you pointed your finger at her and said bang! she would roll over and play dead.

The cat, Smores (because of his coloring) was a character to say the least. We kept his dry food in a large plastic bin with lid. If we weren't home he would bite the edge of the lid and twist his head until the lid came off. We think that his pechant for roof prowling may have hastened his end. When we got the greyhound, smores didn't know that he should respect him, frequently knocking him on the nose to make a point. that is until the time he saw Homer get a hold of a neighbors cat. Needless to say the cat gave Homer wide berth after that.

I've got a rabbit and a cute border collie. All my past pets have been murdered by the next door neighbours pets (luckily, they've recwently moved out). Their dog, Skip, killed my rabbit, Pop and guinea pig, Flame - and I only had him for a week! He died on halloween.... Their cat, Cindy, killed my 2 fish.

This is Maggie Mae, our "Cyclops Dog". She was never the most beautiful Boston Terrier, she's not marked right, and she has skin allergies which sometimes make her skin pink under the white patches, and fur a little bare looking where she scratches. She has special medicine, but it's a battle. Anyway, last Christmas she was hit by a car and lost an eye. She's lucky she wasn't killed!!

She is my son's best friend. She sleeps in a little doggy bed that ends the foot of his bed. She hardly ever barks, though the mailman says that if there aren't cars in the driveway, when he comes onto the porch he's afraid she's going to break a window to bite him!! She follows my son everywhere. When he leaves, she lays in front of the living room door and cries until he comes home. When she's hungry or needs to go outside, she does this very funny little skipping, flipping dance with a wiggle that breaks me up. :D She's a very sweet, special little dog. My Hubby's aunt gave her to us because her other dog, a Pug, didn't like her and they fought over food. I guess it was just meant to be.

Ahhh, Kristal...I love Bostons! That was my childhood pet, too. I had one from age 1 to 13. My hubby's first pet was also a Boston. They are great dogs. I'm going to feel all nostalgic today. I'll have to make hubby play "remember when". Maggie Mae looks like a sweetheart. Your son is lucky to have such a sweet companion.

Wow, Solid_Snake! Your pets are beautiful! Must be a challenge keeping gerbils and mice with cats, though! :D

Zy: I had never had a Boston before, and I have really been pleased with Maggie. I'm not a dog person, and I dearly, dearly love that little dog. But, not half as much as Allen does. :)

Snake: Your animals are beautiful, and the pictures are great quality!! If I didn't know better, I'd think those were postcards or book illustrations, because those pictures are so great! :)

    person123 Frumpy McDoogle!

I have a hamster! His name is Pooky--I know, weird. He lives in a 10 gallon tank on my dresser, and is...almost a year old. Don't quite know how old he was when I got him back in September. I also have a betta fish named Mr. George, who's probably reaching his second birthday, whenever that may be. He lives in a 2 gallon tank on my desk.

How many litres is a gallon? We don't use those units in New Zealand.

And Mr Solid Snake sir, what interesting names!

A US gallon is 3.8 litres
An Imperial (UK) Gallon is 4.5 litres

This is the result of the US setting a pint at 16 fluid oz making a pint of water weigh 1 pound. In the Imperial system it is the gallon that is fixed at 160 fluid ounces making 10 pounds but forcing the pints to be 20 fluid ounces. This has the advantage in Britland you get more beer in your pint glass

    Thanks. *^_^*

It's actually not as hard as it sounds. All of my cats are outdoor pets (brother/mom have allergies) so the only time I find my rodents missing are when the cats sneak inside (Smelly's really bad for mousing my pets  )

    Thanks to you too. :)
(I have more kitten/cat pictures at my "Homepage" if you're interested. It's on a different rating-animal type site at the moment [since I haven't uploaded to Photobucket yet] but almost every image I scan goes there.)
[Edited: I now have my Photobucket as my page - all of my animal pictures are uploaded to it... 55555 is the read-only pass to access the album.]

Hehe, yeah. :) After picking more normal names for 9 years they get a little hard to think of so one naturally turns to weird names (or I do at least) ;)
Oh, and just so ya know: my username is very misleading - I'm actually not a guy. ;) :D

Oooo. I just had my batch of kittens arrive today actually. Six of the little guys. *^_^* I'll post a pic of them within a couple of days.

Well, I'm happy to see another female Solid Snake fan. I'm much of an admirer of Metal Gear Solid.

By the way, thanks for a few new names! I'm using them for The Sims pets, if you don't mind.

    Hehe.
Several days off as I don't know how to work a digicam yet, but here's one picture of the newly arrived kittens. It's not the greatest picture of them as they kept looking away the second I'd click for a photo.

On my film-based camera I have a couple of good shots (I think) so once they're developed I may post 'em here.

I'm scared of cats when they've grown up. I've been scratched so many times by this ginger cat. That's why I prefer dogs. They Rock! But cat's are still cute when they haven't grown their claws...
