I doubt it as I believe it came out with an asus motherboard I had purchased a few years back. Still no matter the program I use it shouldn't tell me to insert a disk after I inserted one it will burn.
I may have to give that shot sometime but right at the moment I'm having software conflicts that prevent my computer from shutting down. I'm also trying to get windows xp installed on my new hard drive and it's being difficult too. If it ain't one thing it's another.
Hi! I'm new here! If you're having trouble with Securom or are just thouroughly annoyed with it you should head over to Simmers Against Securom's site, http://securom.sublimesims.net/ We're a group of Sims fans who wanna get EA to stop putting Securom in their games. We've got several anti-securom campaigns going and we also have a nice and chatty forum. And there's a Tell your story campaign, so if you've experienced computer problems cause of Securom, please write your story down and submit it.
I realize now that the complete loss of my operating system may have been caused by securom, tho I have no way of knowing that for sure at this point. and tho it has been reinstalled (the operating system) we are still experiencing slow or no shut down. I'm not sure if this is a symptom or not, but at start up the computor asks me what program I want to use to register Myst My game is registered from the CD and uninstalled because I finished the it (with a lot of help). So I don't get it. Some sites say that parts of securom remain even when the game(s) are uninstalled. So, what do I look for and where(?) to make sure securom isn't still holding my computer hostage.
Thanks Judson, at this point I copied and saved your article... and will show it to my husband before I do anything as this is a shared computer but I really appreciate your quick response. will get back to you when the fix is made
This is another part of my rave with EA! I don't mind them using some type of program to prevent us from using an illegal copy of their game. I don't have a problem with that at all! BUT that software should not be able to "hold our computers hostage". If that software affects any other program, ability or operating system then it should be illegal because they have overstepped their boundaries! Ruth
just a heads up.. our AVG says that secuROM remove download contains a trojan horse... freaked me out of course I didn't continue until I checked with you all... is that something securom would do to get you not to remove it or is something else going on?
AVG often provides false reports, this is one of them. I've had it and many others have too. My belief on this is that AVG thinks it is a virus since it modifies the register (removes the SecuROM keys). But it does not contain any viruses.
No burning software I am a loyal Simmer. I have bought every expansion on every Sims game (with the exception of the stuff packs). I LOVE the game. I recently began to experience problems loading the Sims after buying Apartments. I was told that it was probably due to securom as I had a ghost drive for Sims 2 Uni. I went out and bought the game and then reinstalled all of them. This worked for 3 loadings of the game and I thought my problems were over. Then it stopped loading. I was told it was because I had burning software on my computer. So i uninstalled Daemon and several other copying devices- which wasn't many as I don't actually have a burning-rom in my personal computer. I then proceeded to uninstall and then reinstall all my Sims games again. Again, this worked a couple of loads but has since stopped working. The only thing I can find on my ENTIRE computer that may be causing the problem is WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER! It's pretty crap when you have to uninstall programs that come with PCs as STANDARD! I have written to EA, I have tried all the answers to the FAQ that they post on the Sims website and none of them allow the game to work for more than a few loads. Because of securom I'm seriously considering not buying Sims3 when it comes out as I don't believe that I'll be able to play it in any kind of length. All securom does is alienate loyal customers who do ACTUALLY buy the game. I've heard that although downloaded versions are missing some features of the finished game I'm starting to believe that this is a small price to play for more than 10 hours game time. I also bought Spore when it came out- I registered online and I had no problems at all. Could this be my problem? I never register my Sims because I never had to in the past. I would really like to hear any advice that could gain me back some game time or effective ways of getting around securom. I also heard about the class-action lawsuit against EA games for the use of securom on Spore and as much as I love EA games- I hope the people win. This program is WRONG.
You need to use the securom removal tools Hi sootster if you've not already done it you're going to need to go this page on sims site http://thesims2.ea.com/help/detail.php?help_id=341 this gives you some of the securom protected games uninstall tools and there is also an uninstall tool on the Sony page https://support.securom.com/removaltool/ So if you've not already done it you're going to need to run these tools to get rid of the last bits of securom from your computer(and don't forget if you reinstall any game that securom in it then it's reinstalled on your computer straightaway) then if you still get problems that seem securom related there seems to be a lot of people on the site who in the end decided the best way to get rid of securom was to totallt reformat their computer. Edited as forgot to ask for email notification :embarrassed:
There is a simmer on BBS who maybe able to help you Sadly it seems once EA has our money now they don't want anything else to do with us, and there are two things you could do one is do something called an Analaysis file and send it to Sony(if you haven't already done this as you may need a new exe file) or you could try signing the guestbook of a really good tech simmer from the BBS called Mone http://thesims2.ea.com/mysimpage/pod.php?user_id=373093 she's been able to fix some problems for other simmers that so called EA tech support implied was their computers/custom content fault absolutely anything else except their game and that evil protection program named Securom.
