Easiest way would be to take your computer tower down to the local computer shop and ask for them to install 512MB of RAM and upgrade the graphics card. They should be able to see what card you'll need then.

Ok astaregod, I've been following all of your posts on how to make the sims 2 work and I've been working on this for days but I keep getting the DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adaptor not found thing when I try to start it up. I've done everything you said, well to the best of my abilities and nothing seems to fix it, so now I'm asking you personally, can you please help me.

I'm having the "failed to find..." problem..I been trying for awhile to fix this but it isn't working. I have no idea what I'm suppose to use. Everything says n/a when I looked for what type of chip set...but what i do know is this:

K7 Triton series agp8X/dual channel DDR motherboard
    Windows Xp
I think the processor is: AMD Athlon
    1.24 GHz, 1.00GB of RAM
Network Adapters: 1394 Net Adapter and
Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC

    sound video and game controllers:
    NVIDIA nForce Audio Codec Interface
    legacy video capture devices
    legacy audio drivers
    standard game port
    Creative SB Live! Value
    Creative SBLive! Gameport

I'm guessing I use NVIDIA but which one? There are 50 types on the site.

I have played the game before on my computer and it worked perfect. Then I had to erase everything and now it won't work when I reinstalled it. Any help would be great.

Check the latest drivers for sis 650 on www.sis.com . there are a couple of drivers available if u have windows xp. one built in 2004 and other in 2006. i also have sis 650. it soved the problem for many games for me. if this doesnt work try the -w switch. open the "properties" menu by right clicking the "the sims " shortcut click "target" in the "shotcut" tab and add a space and -w at the end of the target field so that it looks like this:

    "C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2\TSBin\Sims2.exe" -w

i hope that this will work. plz tell me if it works or if it doesnt

So, it will not work with this S3 card at all? I wish it would say that on the box. I didn't know this and i don't have the slightest idea how to install a new graphics card. I downloaded the driver, etc. but can i make it play at all, even if it's choppy?

Okay. So, I went to the ATI website and then got lost. It doesn't list my chip type. I have Radeon Xpress 200 series. On the website, they only have up to the 300 series. What should I do?

I'm very sad. I just bought Seasons last night, and it was working fine. I even played it this morning... Only now is it acting all strange.

My chip is not any of those. I am using a program called VMware Fusion to run Windows XP on my Mac, and am trying to make the game work on there. Where do I get this driver updated with this product? Is it not going to work at all?

    Display Device
    Name: VMware SVGA II
    Manufacturer, VMware, Inc
    Chip Type: VMware SVGA II
    ...

Also under the system tab it says my DirectX Version is DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

It's really hard to say whether it will work or not since you're running Windows through virtualization. Unfortunately I don't have much experience with virtualization so I'm not sure whether it will or will not work.

I'm just curious though why you aren't running bootcamp though :)

don't have a clue as to what bootcamp is... translate, please?
