Apple’s fifth generation iPhone is rumored to have a new A8 processor and baseband from Qualcomm. According to a Hong Kong-based newspaper Apple Daily, the company was working on a new custom processor. Apple has already introduced their first custom A4 processor last year in the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The A4 chip combines the CPU, GPU and RAM all into one chip.
The report also said the iPhone 5 will include a new baseband from Qualcomm. This company built the first CDMA-based cellular base station. With the upcoming Verizon iPhone 4, there may already be Qualcomm radios included in this model. However, the launch of the Verizon iPhone 4 could prove that chances of a new CDMA iPhone 5 are slim. Even so, Apple may still introduce a new CDMA iPhone 5 along with the GSM iPhone this summer.
